I have a Nook HD+. My main use for it is reading mags and books. It's also an awesome movie player. Surfing the web is too klutsey and don't really need it for email. Some day I'll get a full blown tablet but for now the Nook does everything I need.

What do you think about 7" versus 8.9" for the Nook?

I started with an Ainol Nova 7, cheap Chinese tablet, and pretty much spent more time tinkering with ROM's that actually using the device.... After a year of not using it ever, I randomly decided to buy a Nexus 7 2013 and it took over a lot of home browsing and videos. A few months later I added a Venue 8 Pro to my list of devices and now I have little need for any other device, including my gaming laptop outside of actually gaming, lightroom, and the massive amount of storage...

So, from my experience even if the OP's first tablet doesn't fit his usage doesn't mean that no tablet will... but of course, YMMV.

Internally they are identical except that the 7 inch has 8GB and 16GB storage options and the 9 inch has 16GB and 32GB options. Even their prices are basically identical with both 16GB models priced at $150 (8GB is $130).

Though I find the pricing on the 7 inch model odd since before the price discounts the 9 inch model used to cost $100 more. Which was the cost of getting that bigger screen. Not sure why the 7 inch model price didn't drop as much. So it kinda feels like the 7 inch is going to be less of a great value. However if a 7 inch size is more desirable than a larger 9 inch size, then maybe that won't be an issue.

I got the 9 inch model because I wanted the bigger screen. But that's just me and I already owned a 7 inch tablet (Nexus 7). I can't even decide for myself which screen size I like more, so no way I can offer much help to someone else on the subject. :)

Coincidentally (or not), the 7" Nook HD is currently $80 for a refurb (FS).

Sorry, no can do. Returned mine for refund which went into a Nexus 7, which has proven to be a much better tablet for my needs. With Moon Reader + and Chrome, I have a better reader and web experience. Speed, resolution, bloat free (except Gapps) gives it the edge. Missing the micro SD slot, but the Meenova dongle solves that too.

I tried to finally use the Kindle remotely, I took it to Safeway which has an app.

It's supposed to have a 'locator' feature I turned on In the app it tries to use it to offer coupons.

Between a pretty slow login to the store wifi, and constant errors with the locator, it was like a half hour fiddling with the device trying to find a few coupons.

When I'd finally find one, it'd say 'unable to update card'. So pretty frustrating.

I don't think you really need to go to the store. The location service requires an internet connection and I don't know exactly how Google's location service works, but it worked for me on my Nexus 7 at home.

Anyway, it could be the app itself that had a bug or something, as the Safeway app seems to do those tasks without issue on my Nexus 7 2012.
