Do you really think that our gov't is that dumb that it wouldn't have taken him out if they really wanted to, or at least a more concerted effort at trying? That war was a live fire training exercise. There was a reason that we left him in power. Taking him out would have left a power vacuum in Iraq, and his son's or someone worse could have ended up in power. Say what you will, but Saddam ain't no dummy. A totalitarian ruler that has lasted this long, he has done enough "right" to avoid internal strife and assasination attempts. With him, he's a known quantity. We pretty much know what we get from him.
