Coworker of mine went to an "estate" sale the other other day. Bought a box of junk(knick knacks, canning jars, ect) for $2.00. Turns out, there was one of these things in the box. I guess it dates back to the Revolutionary war. In certain markets in Europe, these things are going for $11,000 a piece. She was basically guaranteed $5,000 with a chance of getting more.

Not bad eh? 🙂

Very Cool, I once brought a 68 Mercury wagon with a 390 engine at an auction. The engine turned out to be a Medium-Riser 427. Only paid $500 for the whole car.

That's better known as a tensioned spirit box. People made them believing that you could capture the spirit of the holder and do incantations on them.

(ok, I have no idea what I'm talking about...)

I used to go to auctions with my dad all the time back in Ind. and Mo.
One time we were at this estate sale and there was all this junk spread on a large table. In one tin box my dad found a SH!TLOAD of GOLD TEETH (I don't even WANT to think about where they might have come from!) He could have bought the box for probably 50 cents, but being the honest guy he is he told the people holding the sale and they took them out of the sale.

(BTW: This is NOT saying that what your co worker did was dis honest! Good SCORE!!!)

Is that hers on ebay? Seems like buyers would be weary of ebay, due to forgeries and such.

No, she's going through an auction company that specializes in items of this type. The buyers know exactly what they want and the quality that they'll be getting. One of the owners of the auction company is a regular on Antique Road Show.

I linked to the ebay auction just for the pics.

I started a big auction company, we were on Oprah a few times with the Antiques Roadshow people, they were a bunch of stiff bastards. Oprah loved us and rambled on like we were Dr. Phil...
