Taliban leaders cornered in Kandahar are negotiating surrender terms with Afghan rebels, the Pentagon said Friday. Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar reportedly urged his forces to ?achieve martyrdom? by standing firm. But U.S. officials said Omar appeared to be cut off from all commanders and, fearing his troops might kill him, has been trying to negotiate his own surrender to Afghan rebels.
