ABC Australia reports:

Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia is reportedly demanding conditions for the release of Osama bin Laden.

There has also been a delay in announcing their final position on whether to surrender the Saudi fugitive to the US.

There are confusing signals emerging from talks between Taliban leaders and a senior two-member Pakistani delegation to Afghanistan, seen as a last ditch effort to persuade the hardline regime to hand over Osama bin Laden.

The Taliban appear to be considering three conditions for the release of the Saudi dissident - that he receive a fair trial in a neutral country, the lifting of international sanctions against Afghanistan, as well as the suspension of military assistance to northern anti-Taliban forces.

Meanwhile, the Taliban council of senior clerics has put off a planned grand council meeting to discuss the matter for at least 24 hours.

The Taliban militia is also denying reports that it has declared a jihad or holy war against the US, but reiterated it would do so automatically if Washington attacks.

I doubt we'll agree to those demands, if they're even made.

Remember, we're also at war with those who harbor the terrorists.
Whether bin Laden is there or not, they're done for.

What the Fvck? Demanding conditions?!?!

Were any of the people in the World Trade buildings given a chance to "demand conditions" before the planes hit?

Were any of the rescue workers given a chance to "demand conditions" before the buildings collapsed?

You are either with us or against us.

No conditions.

What's unreasonable about their demands?

1. is a fair trial so much to ask? with all the emotions in the USA, no jury will ever consider speaking him non guilty, so the trial would be best done in a neutral court, ie, the hague, where also the lockerby trial is held.

2. duh, ofcourse they want the sactions gone.

3. ofcourse they want to see the support for their enemies gone.

from their perspective, those are very reasonable demands.

bin Laden is also the prime suspect of a bombing in Russia as well. So I'm sure they'll want to have their way with him if he is captured.

You don't put people like Bin Laden on trial. "You destroy them".

Screw that offer, we'll come find him. They ask too much, we owe the Taliban nothing, sanctions is one thing, but I have come to theconclusionover the last week that the Taliban should not be in power. The Taliban are unfit to rule a country, especially one as economically strangled as Afghanistan. Whether bin Laden is guilty or not, I think with all the attention he and the Taliban have gotten, both are now doomed.

The US is going to have to weigh any offer that they get. They haven't been able to catch bin Laden, and the chance to have him handed over would be extremely tempting, no matter what requests are made by the Taliban.

They know we'll never find a country to try him in that he hasn't bombed before. Well, maybe Nauru, but I'm not sure they have any courts.
