Tales of Berseria

I figured this would be better to post here, even though I'm playing the PC version. (which is a great port for once)

If you at all like JRPG's and/or Tales series, this is a must buy. It is GREAT. The story is darker than any Tales game I've played and while it is a prequel of sorts to Zesteria (which is horrible, don't get it), they are their own stories and you don't need to play one to understand the other. Berseria is set 1000 years earlier than Zesteria and I think the only crossover is in some TV anime that is out now. The combat is fun, and not tedious depending on your playstyle and while on the surface it has the same base as other Tales games, it is it's own thing (and way better than Xillia or Zesteria).

I am about 40 hours into the game and really like the story and characters. It is STILL a Tales game however, so if you don't like others in the series, you probably won't like this one.

I love the Tales series. Played only 4 flagship titles (ToSymphonia, ToVesperia, ToGraces F, and ToXillia). I do want to play this one, but i'll wait till it's $30 or less.

BTW, is Zesteria that bad? I'm waiting for a ~$15 price point before buying it. I feel like it's getting close to it. What's so bad about it? The story? The battle system? I have loved every Tales game I've played so far.

Consensus is Zesteria is the worst Tales game ever and most Tales fans tell everyone to just avoid it. They site, story is meh, and combat is very tedious and not fun. I haven't personally played it, but the reviews were so bad, I decided to skip it.

Berseria more than makes up for it. It is VERY fun. I am 80 hours in now and still not finished. The story is very engaging. I would say it might be the best Tales game I've played, but I haven't played very many. It is definitely the best JRPG I've played since Xenoblade Chronicles. I hope they continue this, because they've set a new bar for Tales games.

I paid $42 for it and I feel it's well worth it.
