Talented lead singers

So many lead singers for pretty good bands are just no good. So let's make a list of those that are.

Here's my opinions:

Maynard James Keenan
Serj Tankian
The dude from Live is really talented IMO.
Layne Staley was awesome.
The chick from Evenesence.

do you mean singers with traditionally/classically "good" voices and range or do you mean just talented singers?
becuase you are missing the man himself, Little Kurt C.

as far as rock bands go...I would have to say MJK is my favorite. I like Chino a lot too, but his ability to perform has really diminished in recent years. Lajon from Sevendust is up there too

Jeff Buckley
Martin Sexton
Fran Healy (Travis)
Thom Yorke (Radiohead) (I'll catch some flames for this one, I'm sure 😛)
Michael Franti (Spearhead)

There's a huge difference between a singer having a good voice and a singer having talent.

agreed.
that was my original confusion.
i mention that i think kurt cobain was one of the most talented leads to exist on this planet...and while i find it to be good singing, i know its not classically "Good" singing.
i think if we are talking in the realm of pop music its going to be hard to find anyone who would be considered classically talented.

Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails)
Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode)
Ronny Moorings (Clan of Xymox)
Ronan Harris (VNV Nation)
Reinier Kahle (Angels & Agony)
Volker Lutz (Evil's Toy)

Both Freddy Mercury (Queen) and Sabastian Bach (Skid Row) in their heyday were untouchable in terms of vocals.

MJK has one of the best voices ive ever heard, rock or otherwise. too bad APC sucks so much, tho i can still appreciate his talent.

thankfully tool is still going tho.

I wouldn't call spitting out one 15 track album every 5 years "going". Especially when a few of the tracks are allways just garbage filler. I wish they'd get it together and lay down a new album but who the hell knows when that will happen 🙁

yeah but there's more raw songwriting in one tool album than goes into many other band's entire collected works. not to mention that maynard isn't singing crappy little woe-is-me songs, he sings about self-realization, and that process doesn't just happen overnight.

i'll add jonsi from sigur ros.
