the winamp plugin basically removes the layer where the voice is located. the macintosh mp3 player can do this and it doesnt sound great. if you listen to rap or R&B all you get left with is a bunch of bass. if you listen to rock i recall getting very muffled high end and lotsa bass guitar.

i wouldnt bother trying, it will never sound good enough... the best way to get music isolated without words is to go purchase the CD Single of the song... many contain the normal song and an instrumental version.

how do u do it with the winamp plug in?
it doesnt matter if it doesnt sound great!
just need the tune..

thx all..

If you get the song back into wave format you should be able to use cakewalk pro or something along those lines to take the lyrics out. The problem is the "voice" track really isn't separate at all, it is blended in with all different frequencies, so you may lose certain parts of the song as you filter out the voice.
