Taking The Sis 735 Plunge!

First we have VIA KT133A + Sound Blaster Live compatiblities.. and then add to that VIA KT266 + SB Live problems..

now.. KT266A + GeForce 3 problems.. I felt its time to take the plunge for an alternative chipset..

This weekend I'll be swamping myself in the Leadtek Winfast 7350KDA motherboard adventure..

I know its not top of the line, in theoreticle memory performance, but what are you to do when the market is full of so many incompatibility problems...
Oh well..

I'm sure there are worse decisions to make..

Good luck. But someone here didnt have so good luck with this board.....Insane3d i think. Also my ECS board had lots of problems which were eventually all resolved by many hours of reading but I sold it and now have a shuttle. Well 3 shuttles cause I like them so much and it was time to upgrade my office computers

Good for you! Another user freeing himself from the hell they call "VIA". Don't worry about it. Both the K7S5A and 7350KDA are fine SiS 735 mainboards. The Leadtek is evolving by the day. Some are reporting 170+ FSB speeds with great success. Others have had mixed results. Nonetheless, SiS 735 itself is rock solid.

The board layout is great but it has some problems right now, from what I have read and experienced.
Right now, I don't know if it is a bad mobo not enough power or what, my optical mouse does work through my ps2. And I had errors in winxp pop up everytime with the old bios and radom resetting, but I think the new bios fixed most of the problems except the mouse issue.

It is fast, stable as of right now, and very very well layed out board. They added some small stuff to the board that I really liked.

I'll be using a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz as my source of sound..

Hopefully all will go well. I will experience and mess around with both Windows 98SE and Windows XP and see how they both come out.

I haven't installed the board yet, but I didn't even realize I received the version with the onboard LAN controller.
Not too bad of a board for $103.00!

The problems I've read about were running your CPU at 133Mhz FSB , coupled with a memory bus at 166Mhz..
I have gathered from that info, that if you just happen to have a nice AMD cpu that would run at 166 Mhz FSB, I have a feeling this board would smoke!!

Yeah they said that they overclocked it some and it was awesome, but mine doesn't post at 133 166 it does post at 150 150 30.

I have some Crucial PC2100 CL2.5 that will run at default FSB, with the most aggressive memory timings that can be set in my current bios..

I'm wondering if this stuff will do close to 166 FSB, with the "least" aggressive memory timings?

Anyone had experience with this?

Or should I look into a different memory module choice?

I'm going to try the new Ledtech board as well but I'm not so naive to thing the SiS chipset won't have any problems. Via has gotten to be quite a large company with many talented people working in it and none of them set out to make a chipset with problems.
Asynchronous memory timings will never be fast in any motherboard so run the memory and FBS the same. If you unlock your CPU it should have no problems running at 150 or 166MHz but finding memory to run quickly at those speeds may be another matter. If you don't want to get fast memory then you might be better off with the more mature KT266A board.

I'm getting the Leadtek board also.
My current board and processor aren't playing nicely with the new Visiontek GF3 Ti200 card I got. Much like what Josephlb was talking about with his KT266A board and GF3.
I have a Tyan Trinity S2380 and a 500mhz classic athlon. That just doesn't cut it anymore, so I'm looking for a better but cheap solution.
So I'm taking the Sis735 Leadtek jump of faith as well.

I also got myself a Leadtek 735 based motherboard. Just got tired of endless problems related to VIA chipsets. SB Live problems, GeForce 3 problems, what's next?

I have the Epox 8KHA+ and a PNY G3 ti200 and have no problems. Well, actually I did after upgrading to the latest AGP driver that came with the
latest 4in1's. The one that came with XP works just fine.The Leadtek 735 based board has potential but I would wait for a revision just to make sure
they've ironed out the kinks.
