I'll be taking the asvab tomorrow to determine which jobs i qualify for in the Air Force. I've read some stuff online but its all just sample tests and stuff like that. I'll be picking up a study book from the library tonight. Has anyone taken it that can give me some tips?

If you have any knowledge at all the military people will be knocking down your door trying to get you to enlist. They were calling me two years after I took the thing seeing what I was up to and whether they could be of any help. Oddly enough, one of my friends from hs enlisted and he was one of the people I got a call from once:)

My tip was going to be not to take it unless you seriously want to join the military, but it looks like you do. I took it just to get out of classes, and I scored in the 98th percentile and had people calling me into my twenties:Q I never meant to enlist, and it just got really old after a while.

Learn more about basic mechanics...the part I scored lowest in was that section...you should do great though...it's not a hard test at all

its just like the sat, only easier. Don't sweat it. If you are worried, just goto a bookstore and buy a practice test. If you do crappy, you are allowed to retake the test.

I remember the Asvab.... I didn't know jack squat on it and somehow managed to perfect the mechanics portion of the test. I had the AF/ARMY/NAVY you name it calling me about 3 to 4 nights out of the week. Not to mention they knocked on my door a couple of times as well. I finally had to just tell them to go away b/c there is no way in hell I'm enlisting unless it's a last resort for money for a college edumacation...umm kay. The test is a joke.

Get rest. The ASVAB is pretty easy. I like others didnt do as well in the mechanical section as I did others but my overall score was a 98. Just make sure you have a clear mind because fatigue will kick your butt.

I was in the upper 95th percentile when I took it...I screwed up royally on the mechanics part though :(...they stopped calling when I told them I wanted to join ROTC anyways :)

I just took it today, it's really easy. I just didn't know most of the parts on the electrical, automotive, and mechnical stuff, lol. The stupidest question I got wrong was the one about red stuff leaking from your car(I couldn't decide between transmission fluid or brake fluid). Even if I'm a girl, I should of got that one right.

omfg that was the easiest standardized test I ever took. i'm sorry i did, because as others have mentioned it's like ringing the dinner bell for the recruiters.

I think I took that test too in HS. Not sure how I ended up taking it since I didn't want to go to military.
Had recruiters calling me as well. Good thing I didn't join the reserves. It would really suck if I had to leave work to go fight in Iraq.

Haha. I scored in the top 5% or something. I forgot. I just took it to get out of class. I never got any phone calls. :( I feel left out...

Just get some sleep. Relax, and make sure you are wide awake for the test, keep you mind clear. The test itself is not even a challenge, however it is mundane to the extreme, and that generally speaking is what can trip you up.

I scored near perfect, you should be well up there. Funny thing is they simply handed me the book of all the jobs in the military and told me to take my pick of what job I wanted. (I was also eligable for Army/Marine OTC b/c of my college credits. At the time it only required 45credits to be an officier.)

good luck.

Bingo. I got out to take the test and then again to interprit the results. In retrospect, I should have just stayed in class if it would have meant no calls from military peeps.

That's right. Cramming at this point will do you little good. I do know that there are study guides created just for this purpose. However, at this point, rest is your best option. Get plenty of it and you'll be ready for the exam. Best of luck!! :)
