Taking pictures through glass

I do a lot of wild life photography, I am in a rural area so get lots of opportunities. Other interest though is aquatic life. I have a friend who has a boat with a glass window in the bottom and often get to see some things I would love to shoot but the problem is any shots always have the reflection of the glass where you get partial mirror images of things like the sky, branches over the boat, etc. Sometimes I can photoshop it out but often it destroys a good shot.

Is there a lens filter I can use to remove some of this ? I was thinking polarizing filters but wasn't sure. Help appreciated.

Oh, and I already thought about mounting a camera in the water but rivers are not very kind to things mounted in the water.

The easiest thing I've found for this is to just put the lens right against the glass. I do it a lot when taking pictures of animals at the zoo that have cages with glass/plexiglass windows. You'll still get blurring and speckles if the glass is dirty, but there won't be any reflections..

Polarizing filter would probably work as well.

Circular Polarizing Filter... you can use it to cut out all of the reflection from glass and/or water. Buy a good/decent one, you won't be disappointed!
