Taking ownership of files

The dilemma: I installed Windows 7 on a separate partition and would like to access my music library which is under "My Documents" on my Windows XP partition.

I go to take ownership of the files in Windows 7 and read "note that once you take ownership, the previous owner might not have access to the object." So....will I or will I not...? Anyone done this before?

The only reason to take ownership of files is if the OS denies you access. The files you describe should not fall under that category. Unless you are denied access, leave 'em alone.

Key words are "might not." I've taken ownership in Win7 on a dual boot and I have not seen any issues accessing the files from the other installed OS (XP).
