Things I'm getting done to the car:

Replace both front lower ball joints - $302
Replace serpentine belt (fan belt) - $83
4 wheel alignment - $75
Oil change service and full inspection - $45

Total: $505

Wow, that's a lot for the work being done. I'm guessing it's a foreign car? $83 for a belt

Serpentine belt. I just put fan belt there as a close description. My car uses just one main belt so if it breaks, I'm out of luck.

$45 for an oil change???? And don't give me the inspection BS. Walmart or any other garage will likely do the same for $25.

I wouldn't trust those clowns at Walmart to refill me windshield water. Any other garage is OK.

I can't see how they'd screw it up.. they are liable, so you'd think they have people who know the difference between the oil and the windshield washer fluid at least :p

Where do you draw the line? Why not the whole front end, and all the brake assemblies? What about the struts and CV joints? Might as well get rid of that old exhaust system while you're at it...

I understand the serpentine belt, but $83 for a $10 plus install is just insane. The last one I replaced was $12 from Autozone and took about 5 minutes.

But who replaces ball joints as preventative maintenance unless you are replacing the whole knuckle?

The line is quite obvious. There are parts of a car that if breaks or fails, will render a car undriveable. Replacing these parts that are close to the end of its rated life or use as preventive measures will help prevent me from being stranded if they do fail.

And no I didn't just one day decided to replaced these things for the heck of it. I frequently visit a few forums specifically for my brand and model of car and many of these owners have also had bad experiences with the things I listed. It's just a flaw with my car model that these ball joints go out prematurely.

Most of what I listed can very well be DIY but I just don't have the time or motivation to do it myself. By buying a luxury car, I fully understand the higher maintanence costs to maintain these types of cars.]

It's a flaw with the early GS's that these ball joints go out prematurely. If not replaced, it could pop off and cause who knows what especially on the freeway.

you over estimate what they are capable of.. heh. It's not really they aren't capable.. but rather don't give a rats ass about your car. Places like jiffy lube... man.. one friend had to tell them to open the hood back up so he could screw the cap back on himself. another lost his drain plug shortly after leaving.

anyway... i'm all for DIY :) what i can anyway. but if the OP doesn't have a prob payin for it.. might as well.

Would have been the same exact total for a Civic, if you'd taken it to the same sheisters.
