Ok I have 60GB in my current laptop and have manage to fill up the space quite quickly! 8GB Free space now and was thinking of the idea of taking all the crap I want but dont need all the time and storing them on a laptop HDD in a removable case. So when ever I go somewhere and need to access the data, I would just hook up the HDD through the USB2.0 and all would be good. Is it a good idea? I have 8GB worth of game CD images on the current laptop HDD and like 5GB of other junk like music and video files. And the final question, would it be a good idea to install JUST the games on the external drive? I'm worried about creating problems in windows when the drive is not connected.

It's a good idea for file storage, but I would not use the external drive for storing games. The latencies and throughput of the external drive will be higher, which will undoubtedly slown down your games. But external drives are fine for video, audio, and other misc. files.
