But don't want to use it at all for voice / text / email. Just want to be able to use it for wifi when I'm within range.

If I turn (or keep) Data Roaming Off, will this do what I want? I don't want to pay any extra charges for being in Europe :)

Thanks!

Just JB and soft unlock and use a prepaid SIM. However I didn't have much luck finding good prepaid data service. Use SBSettings to turn off data (needs JB). An iPhone is good, but a JB'n iPhone is just great.

This site seems to offer unlimited data international sim cards for rent: http://www.iphonetrip.com/

let us know how it goes if you figure it out, i'll be stopping by in the UK soon and will need to figure this out too.

No no, i don't want to use it at all with any SIM. It's a vacation, I'm not wanting to connect with work :) I just want to be able to use the wifi when needed.

considering you probably updated to 3.1.3 you cannot unlock anyway. But you can jail break.

Basically you pwntool to hack the 3.1.3 firmware, then install it ot the phone.

Though i dont think you need to do this for what you need. Just turn off service should work. Maybe call aTT and ask them?

Just leave it in Airplane mode and turn wifi on. That will prevent any cell tower communication.

Just put it in airplane mode and turn wi-fi on. I made a few calls via skype with this from Paris not too long ago.
