Taking both credit card slips has become the new cheesiness

Uh, no, I can tell if my service is bad or not and the table was really happy. I only had 3 tables at the time since it was getting late and gave them all the attention they needed with a smile. They were just cheap. A person that takes both credit card slips is taking both because they are to cheap not to tip.

A person that did not want to tip because of bad service would let you know by writing a 0 or a / through the tip part. Ive been waiting tables long enough that I can distinguish between different patrons.

And no, I dont work at Olive Garden, the restaurant I work at has a $45 per person check average.

I usually leave a 10 to 20% tip, depending on service. If it's bad enough I'll leave nothing, making the service even worse for the diner after me. 🙂

People who don't leave tips are jerks. I can understand if the food or service was bad, but if you don't want to spend much, please eat at Macdonalds or at home.

Huh?

If you don't leave a signed slip with a tip amount, the restaurant can bill you, but they can't (obviously) claim a tip.

I assume there's some paperwork to fill out (for the restaurant) in case the inconsiderate customer tries to dispute the charge, too.

Huh?

A person that does not tip because of bad service would do the following

a) let you know or your manager know
b) be visibily unhappy
c) the server would know if they were giving bad service
d) would write a / or a $0 in the tip portion

Some people are cheap and realize that they really couldnt afford to eat at our restaurant, evident by they way they react to the menu and by splitting stuff like salads and soups. Taking both credit card tips is a good way for someone to cheap to tip not to.

You either get stiffed because you gave bad service or the person is plain cheap.

Sometimes I'll leave no tip on the credit card and tip with cash.

somehow I don't think waiters mind that. 😉

No % here at all. Gratuity given is commensurable with service. I've left 200% before based on this alone. Lately, this hasn't happened all too often.

Since 90% of the time I leave a cash tip, I always put a '0' in the tip part.

Uh, no, im never condescending thank you very much. I actually go out of my way to make everyone feel comfortable, even moreso when I know they are new to the restaurant. Ive waited tables long enough that I know every single table counts and to treat everyone with respect and do everything I can to make sure their experience is both pleasurable and memorable. Thats why I do things like sing happy birthday solo and take pictures, even though servers are not required to sing there. Not only that but we have secret shoppers in everytime that grade us on like a billion service points. Anything below perfection is a grounds for immediate termination.

This doesn't make sense to me, I pointed it out to him once and he ignored it:

he then went on to tell me how a person responds to bad service. In my 47 years I have ate out once or twice and had poor service.
Plus, I am an ass.
