Anyone ever take apart a Nikon L4? This camera was dropped in the salty ocean, but it was not on, so I suspect that there is a really small chance that it may still have life. Before i power this little thing on, I just want to open it up and get the redsidue off the board. However, when I try to open the camera, I cannot get the top (the side with shoot button) off. Anyone have any experiences with taking a low end Nikon apart?

There's a thread on DPReview.com that says how to clean a camera that's been dropped in an ocean. I'll try to look for it but from what I remember you are to immediately remove the battery and memory card and place the camera in a bucket of distilled water. yes, in distilled water. leave it overnight and do it again. after doing this a few times leave it out to dry.

edit:
I searched dpreview and i was a little off. it needs to be de-ionized and distilled water (no minerals). you would need to continually clean it (run it under that water, etc - although one thread the guy use that bucket method) thoroughly and let it dry... make sure it's DRY. some people let their cameras dry for 3 days before attempting to turn it back on. good thing your camera wasn't on or it would've been gone.

I couldn't find a single definitive thread, but if you search their forums with distilled water salt a bunch of threads will pop up.

....... looking for the thread now....

Makes sense. Distilled water will disolve the salts and minerals from the ocean water. Also will kill any of the creatures from the salt water.
