I'll start. 2 x 100mg of generic Effexor daily. Beats the crap out of Zoloft....just made my weiner limp and poop something like a YooHoo every hour or so. Lovely :)

Edit: as far as how it's working....things could be better, but they're alot different than before i got on it.

Its not just depression, I have anxiety attacks that feel like a heart attack. I've been to the ER before. You can laugh, but some of us have some weird crap going on. Actually, I would've laughed and made jokes too when I was younger before it started. So actually, make jokes, everyone needs a laugh, even at their own expense :)

I've been dealing with anxiety attacks and depression since my encounter with a drunk driver in June. Was just put on Zoloft today. I'll let you know how the wiener and poop chute do as the week progresses.

Constantly feeling like you're going to be hit by a car again (even though you're in a 400 seat lecture hall) any second sucks.

Waiting to see if this thread gets the two comments I expect to see shortly...

Anti-depressants aren't something you should be speaking to a computer forum about while expecting any semblance of sound medical advice or psychological evaluation. You really should be talking to a doctor and/or psychologist.

That's why I only drive when I'm drunk. That way I won't have panic attacks when the shit hits the fan. ;)

Did you ever wonder why Dr Phil always has silly advice and never has any real solutions to anything? It's because psychologists are not doctors. They don't have any chemical background, any biological background, they did not go to med school. Asking a psychologist to fix major organs (ie the brain) is like asking a janitor to fix your computer.

I can total understand that. I hope the meds help.

I have taken Effexor XR for about 3 years. 300MG per day. It has worked for me better than anything I have ever taken. Now the down side. NEVER and I mean NEVER stop taking it suddenly . You will go through the worst withdrawals and feel like someone has taken your brain and beat it with a bat. It is a good drug but it has a short half life, meaning that within about 28 hours it is out of your system, and once your brain expects it to be there and you take it away , your brain throws a fit :) The last time I quit taking it was because I forgot to get it filled and ran out on a weekend. Day 1 was okay. Day 2 I started feeling like everytime I moved my eyes as if my brain was rotating inside my skull. By the end of day 2 I was nauseated and feverish. Day 3 I was vomiting and couldn't sleep or eat and constantly on edge. I went that afternoon and got it refilled. within 2 hours I was perfectly fine again. All that said I would still take it because it has changed my life 200% .

You can search google for effexor withdrawal and get hundreds of links.

Poor taste, considering his situation requires medication and also considering that this forum lost a well-loved member to a drunk driver a couple years ago. :frown:

Was not expecting medical opinions, just user input. I have a doctor, otherwise I would not have a prescription.

I just started on Effexor last Friday. Though it's theoretically for serotonin adjustment so I can start sleeping regularly.
Supposed to take 75mg a day for now.
Not liking it. I'm rather uncomfortable with it. Harder for me to think.

Also I have to take Topamax/topamirate to bring my brain's GABA levels up.

Effexor is an evil fucking drug. My wife had taken various anti-depressants, with varied results, over the years and eventually the doctor prescribed Effexor to her. It trigggered a manic episode, brought her bi=polar disorder to the forefront, and effectively led to the end of our marriage. Evil, evil fucking drug.

Effexor is evil for a lot of people, my friends included. It just seems to work for me. But i do think i need a slightly greater dose. And yes, withdrawal sucks hard if you miss a dose.

I wish anyone with panic disorder and anxiety nothing but the best. It's hard to understand it unless you've had to go through it. Even watching a loved one experience panic and anxiety doesn't do justice to how awful it is.

It's hard for me to ride in cars anymore and even biking around town (my only form of transportation) leaves me convinced I'm about to get rocked every intersection I ride through. I really hope this and the sessions I have set up starting next week helps...

It's hard to understand even if you're the one with the problem. Randomly feeling like you're starting to have a heart attack and can't breathe is just weird. I don't have a past with traumatic experiences or anything, so I guess something in my head is just a little...different :) I guess it still beats being born without fingers or something. It could be a lot worse, so there's only so much I'll complain. At least this is treatable, I wish others had as much luck with it as I've had.

No offense, but your doctor was an idiot for prescribing an SSRI to someone with a history of mania in the family. It's a well-established fact that SSRI's should be avoided when dealing with anybody who even has a tinge of bi-polar or mania in their family.

Who do you think prescribed them to him?

She had no history of mania. Agreed he was a fucking idiot though.
