Taking a week off from work to play Fable 2

Rage187

Lifer
Have a couple of weeks of vacation I need to burn up before the end of the year so i figured it was as good as reason as any.

Anyone else doing something similar?

I took half a day off work back on April 29th when GTA4 came out. I felt stupid after doing it. 😛 But if you have vacation to burn and it won't roll over to next year or get paid out, then by all means, sounds like a good time.

There's this thing call evenings and weekends. Wasting vacation to play games is just stupid.
My uncle used to call in sick to work many a time to stay at home to play EQ and make long distance conference calls over AT&T during raids because the VOIP clients at the time sucked.

I wish I could take a week off school.

Same here, I would hate to get behind a week in my senior level compilers class. It is getting rather crazy in there at the moment.

I"m just hoping I get my console back from MS in time to play Fable when it releases. Just turned my xbox to play after not touching it for about 3 months and 3 red lights.. yay 🙂

Who are you to tell others how they should spend their own vacation time? A bit pretentious, are we?

I have a wife and kids.

and you're spending vaca time on a VG that could be spent with them....

I just think you'll regret burning a week of vacation for a vg in the long run.

Let's re-analyze this thread quickly.

Topic: "Taking a week off..."
OP: "Have a couple of weeks..."

Maybe the kids are in school during the day? Maybe the wife works and doesn't have free vacation time? Maybe getting more information is good before making judgments?

maybe plan something that involves the entire family and not a vg?

Maybe he's tired of being the best dad and husband anybody has ever had, and just wants some time to himself to enjoy one of his hobbies. I'm guessing if somebody said they were going to take a week of vacation to do some woodworking or photography, you wouldn't think half as bad about it.

So do I, but I still wouldn't waste vacation just for a video game... unless that vacation is going to go to waste anyway in which case I'd gladly use it .. probably even without a video game just to stay home and sleep 🙂

At any rate, using a vacation for a video game does nothing but make you get through the game a lot faster... unless there is a race or something, wouldn't it be better for the entertainment value to last a while?

I can't wait for Fable 2, but it'll be after the Kid's bed time in the evenings for me.

note to all those judging others for judging others... I'm not making any kind of judgement on the OP, simply providing my own opinion on the matter.. everybody is entitled to do what they wish with their free time. A post like this though is inviting others to post their own opinions and here is mine 🙂

If it's a use-it-or-lose-it scenario and you're going to pick any random week to take off, anyway, why NOT when Fable 2 comes out?

Our family has already taken a vacation to Florida in July (NickHotel FTW!). I have 2.5 weeks I have to use before the end of the year and most of December is blocked off at work and we are not allowed to schedule vacation during that time.

I appreciate your candor but this is a gaming forum, not a parenting class.

You lucky bastard

I have a wife and a kid. And I think if I took a week off from work to play video games I would no longer have a wife and a kid.

😱

At least my employer lets us cash out our time each year if we aren't going to use it.

Wow--this thread is really going places!

Look, I wouldn't use beyond one day of vacation time to play a video game either--but I'm not this guy. If it's something he wants to do and is excited for it--then good for him.

Everyone has their hobbies and passions, and everyone needs their own time for themselves. Let the man have his fun.

I have 16 sickdays. Some will roll over so I may take a "Got the flu, need to be in bed for a week" move soon. All my vaca days are gone. I have 2 personal days left but need those for emergencies. I only took 1 sick day so far this year and could you some "mental" days soon. 🙂

I'm taking a week off for WotLK. I'm 24, I live by myself, and have no reason to use my vacation, so I use it for games. All of you asses judging people in here need to fuck off.

I agree. I am divorced (no wife bitching about games anymore) and my son is 15 and spends a week with me and then with the ex and hes big into gaming also so its win-win!

I'm not giving parental advise. But if I was lucky enough to have a family, I would not be using a weeks worth of vacation to play a vg, that is all.

I can't believe that so many in the video gaming forum are flaming a guy for this. It's pretty lame.

Not having a family, you don't know what it's like so you're really not qualified to make that statement.
