Taking a trip to the LA area

Sometime in August the GF and I want to take a little weekend trip (friday to monday) to LA and the surrounding area. We want to go to the beach, walk around and just have a good/relaxing time. We will have a car but would need to find a hotel. I've never been to the LA area so I'm not really sure where the good tourist type places are and what cool stuff there is to see. How is Long Beach or Santa Monica?

I dont think Long Beach is much of a tourist attraction. Sounds like you want to head to Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

Eat at a Claimjumper! Coronado area is cool for a beach! Anywhere near Disneyland is fun touristy stuff!

Rancho Palos Verdes is pretty. Worth a drive/walk there. Scenic sh*t. There's Trump's golf course right there.

Santa Monica/The Palisades and Venice Beach. Try, Getty Museum and Mansion. Beautiful and free too!

Beverly Hills (Rodeo Drive)

The Grove.

Could try Orange County too... Laguna and Newport Beach.

Long beach has some 'attractions', but I'd hardly go there on vacation. Venice Beach can be a nice Saturday or Sunday destination (although crowded as hell)

If you want light traffic visit Newport Beach, Corona del Mar/Crystal cove. Much less crowded and nicer.
