I'm going to be traveling through a number of countries in Europe this summer from America and I'm a little paranoid that I might screw up my laptop. I've heard that some laptops have no problems but others can get screwed up royally and I have no idea of how to find out if mine could handle 220 VAC that I think some countries use.

My laptop is an HP Pavilion zt3000

I would ask HP.

Some laptops can automaticaly switch betwen USA and Europien voltage. Ask for yours.

Before you do anything, look on the power supply itself. There is always a little label that shows the input and output specs. Look for the input AC number. If it gives a range like 100-240V, then yours will work.

It depends entirely on the PSU. There should be a lable on it stating the voltages it works with. If not, just ask HP, they should know. The label should say "Input:100-240V" and somewhere the frequency should be noted: it has to work with 50-60Hz.

almost all A/C adaptor can handle 100-240 voltage at 50-60hz. this is especially for portable devices. in short it should work.

Thanks all! I checked the A/C adapter and it looks like it'll work. I feel like such an idiot, I checked everywhere BUT the A/C adapter including calling HP only to sit on hold for an hour and have a lady say "Oh I'm sorry, thats a laptop question, I'll have to transfer and put you to the back of the line. Have a nice day!"
