MSI K8N Neo Platinum NForce3 250 Motherboard 754 Socket

1.5 GB Kingson Hyper X RAM (3x512 single channel)

BFG nVidia GeForce FX 5500 OC 256 MB

Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS

Maxtor 80 GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD

Maxtor 36.7 GB Atlas 10K III U160 SCSI 68pin HDD (game storage only)

Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 SCSI Controller card

Samsung 16x DVD RW, black

Samsung 16x DVD ROM, Black

Samsung 3.5" floppy, Black

Samsung SyncMaster 19" CRT monitor

Logitech Cordless MX duo keyboard & mouse

Klipsch Promedia GMX-D 5.1 speakers

most of this stuff I got great deals on...none, I repeat NONE of this is OEM (not too trusty of them) total cost of this project is about $1,038. what do ya think?

i would get an NEC 3520A for the DVD RW

maybe upgrade to socket 939 for better upgradeability

maybe a 6600GT

oh wait, you already bought stuff? 😱

nvm, then

I am also going to go with Corsair XMS (2x512) platinum 1 GB dual Channel memory instead of the Kingston Hyper X

Dump the SCSI drive and put the money toward a better video card. You're not going to be playing Doom 3 with that card at any decent resolution or quality setting.

yeah and for that money i would get atleast a socket 939 system if not a 939 system with PCI-e.

maybe this:
3200+ winchester 939
DFI lanparty UT ultra-D (you dont need to SLI it, but its good to have incase, plus its in the same price range as single PCI-ex16 boards)
6600GT PCI-e (good if you want to add another one later on, if you dont, thats fine too)
a regular 160GB segate baraccuda. (SP)
2x512mb sticks of Corsair value ram, you dont need that flashy expensive ram
an NEC 3520a instead of 2 seperate drives, but if you want 2 drives for dirrect copies then thats fine.

EDIT:

"most of this stuff I got great deals on."

oh. 🙁
