okay, the way I see it, If all of us write Anand an email telling how much we would like him to push distributed computing a little more in the mainpage or possibly write a review about it, it won't go unoticed. most likely if well can flood his mail box with request for this we will get a response. I have been visiting Anandtech for about 2 years, I just started seti and RC5 about a month ago because i just started visiting the forums. If we all pull together we won't go unoticed. so lets start writing emails.

Not a bad idea really. A feature article that is.
I had considered doing one for our local computer users group with a working title like "Does Your Computer Need a Part Time Job" or "Your Computer is Getting Bored"
The only thing might be that Anand's site is geared for hardware reviews and the like. He may decide that it does not fit in.
However, if it makes it into the center article listing, and gets a legacy referal from vss1980's logo, it would be a real asset to TA as a whole. An alternate link on the front page would be the 'site news' section along the left edge.
Actually, with the growth of distributed computing in general when you consider flu virus, Napster et al, and the paid projects, an article on AT would be timely.

I want ViRGE's opinion before I send my e-mail. ViRGE, and others, have sent Anand just a single e-mail, and he eventually responds. It seems to me Anand is giving us as much attention as he can in his busy day, and mail bombing him probably won't have the desired effect. :(

However, a feature article on DC might not be a bad idea. Don't forget to include my new favorite project (even though I haven't had a chance to try it yet :Q) GOLEM. :)

Fingers,

Your heart is certainly in the right place, and your enthusiasm is refreshing and welcomed. But, this is not a good idea at all. Anand receives an INCREDIBLE volume of mail already.

I would guess, based on my own experience when I was writing for him, that he is getting somewhere between 500 and 600 eMail a day normally, and double that when he does a particularly hot review. To add to that pile would be a bit rude.

Far better for a single representative, such as ViRGE who maintains the FAQ, to contact him with the idea.

Maybe if we all sign a thread showing support for the idea it might make a bigger impact to him?

???:)

Actually, I think we should be patient. We should approach him when we are about to pass the dot and become number one, so that he can time an article to coincide with that. It would have a far greater impact on our recruiting efforts if, as part of his overall piece, he could loudly announce to the world that the RC5 team had become top dog.:D

I think that if whatever we decide to do should wait until the teamanandtech site is finished and we have a site to refer everyone to.

I will do whatever Virge and the rest of the team decides is best.

I had a little bit of dialog with Anand over the SETI project..
It is very difficult to get an e-mail to him because of the enormous number he receives. When he did reply, he was enthusiatic about helping us, unfortunately, when I replied back with our info, I guess he must have missed my mails.

I think sciencewiz has it right, we should sort out the Team Anandtech page, and have one person do the talking with Anand (Virge, if he doesn't mind) for all projects..

cheers,

Col.
