So essentially the island of Formosa would have to explode, catch on fire, fall over, be nuked by every capable country on earth , and sink in to the ocean to equal to what this guy is claiming?

Don't forget the Earth will probably spit out a new moon after everything is said and done. Oh, and all of us vaporized as the crust bakes itself due to the friction of all that wave-action passing itself across the entirety of the crust. And let us not forget the oceans of magma that would thus result.

Wait, could plates theoretically even cause such a buildup of potential to release such an amount of energy after they finally slip?

I know that the mathematical scale has no true limit, as it's a simple progressive scale. The Good Doctor already explained this better than I ever could. :)
But I imagine there has got to be a loose theoretical limit based on the physics of our specific situation here on Earth. Plates themselves, not involving external variables such as impactors, have got to have a top-end potential.
But then again, like all good rules, there must be exceptions. I imagine there might possibly be one moment in time here on Earth where the plates just refuse to break their grip on each other, and the potential energy release continues to build as that eventual slip draws nearer.

Essentially, could the Earth wipe out all life simply because two plates held out against each other for so long, but did finally let go and the stored momentum causes a massively destructive slip?

I know sometimes this does happen, and the plates move considerably more than the average movement... and yet sometimes that massive slip releases minimal energy.

I honestly don't expect such a situation to be possible in this case, but nature can prove strange sometimes, and the rare exceptions can be massively off the mark from the rule. Chaos is fun like that, sometimes all the right circumstances, all the right (wrong?) variables in place, can exaggerate the perceived rule-breaking, as such instances typically involve numerous rare events compounding upon each other.

Yea, but was it local time or GMT, often used for tracking earthquakes.

If local 15 minutes. Wonder if 5/21 is a backup date, then 2012.

You know what is interesting to think about? What if we truly reach End Times sometime, where some event of some sort is guaranteed to wipe all of us out.
Stay with me now. So, take that last part in consideration. Now, what if some ancient peoples actually did predict End Times correctly, but made an error in the calculations? You know, sometimes we are both right and wrong. :)

I so badly want to live through End Times if it's going to happen. I want to watch it happen... quite the experience of a lifetime.
I don't want to die, but I figure, if we are all doomed, I definitely want to be there to watch it happen. I don't want to simply get incinerated when I'm sleeping dammit, that's boring. Any End Times scenario is likely to be instant death if you're early to the show, and I figure... even if our species is to survive, but in severely weakened numbers... well, I don't know if my genes are best suited for survival of the species, and I don't want to lessen our chances of increasing our numbers as quickly as possible. And shit, I can handle a few months or maybe even a few years of a hellish life, if I get to come back home to the world I knew (modern world). For the survival of the species, I would do it/try, if forced into the situation. But if I have a choice in the matter, I'm not gonna be one of those guys who prepare for survival of End Times. I'm going to be more focused on either trying to stop it, or at least throwing myself at it. :) If there's a decent chance our efforts could succeed, preparing to survive in the wastelands is wasted. And if our efforts fail, well ideally I'll be one of the first ones out of here then, and don't need to worry about the wastelands. There are peaceful benefits in being the defender-type.
Though, I could lead the survivors. :hmm: Being the leader of one of the last bands of humans could have its perks. Then again, that whole wasteland thing again. lol

If you had a choice would you choose a 14 were he says it occurs . Or would ya rather have a 10.3 at New Madrid Fault?

From the way you talk . I would expect you not to panic . Which leads me to ask. Would you enjoy watching man go crazy with fear? What if its the just a change we go threw ?

Can you tell me this, In recent years has the Sun been releasing a new kind of radioactive material ? Find the ans. to that and than start rethinking the possiabilities

Neither one is likely to impact me too much...so how about both at the same time? Really get the earth to rocking...

This guy is probably a self-proclaimed prophet at the Wing Chun Mental Hospital.
