I know, this should've been posted in the Cooling or Motherboard forum.....but I couldn't figure out which one so I'm posting here. The link below shows a pic of my Taisol CGK742092 Heatsink mounted on my new MSI Pro 2-A.

Taisol on a MSI Pro 2-A

As you can see in the picture, the Taisol barely clears the MSI chipset heatsink and is actually touching the top right coil. I'll round that corner off with a Dremel before I put it in use. Just wanted to show everybody a pic of this mobo/heatsink combo to demonstrat the fitment issues.

Enjoy!

Thanks Sanctum!! I have this mb and have the same HSF on order and was looking for a pic.

Question, how about a pic not from above this time,
but from the side so we can see how much clearance there is.

I am wondering if I can put an old 486 cpu-cool hsf on the chipset....just don't know if it will clear.
And I don't have my cpu or hsf yet, just the mb and 486 cpu-cool with no way to tell for sure.

Thanks for the pic though, that rocks.

Sanctum,

what is your point? The TAISOL is one of the best coolers for that mobo - maybe you should have used a "FILE" instead of dishing out $70.- for that Dremel.

I wonder if common sense will ever kick in...

And by the way, your picture is falsified. Does not show the right dimensions.

Geez the guy was just trying to help for those contemplating that setup - give him a break. Good pictures just need a side view like the other post suggested. BTW take that silly Taisol fan off and put a real fan on.

RE: Jalapeno

The post was to help clear up any speculation people had about fitment issues. If you spend a few minutes and do a search you'll notice that alot of people have questions about this combo. It was my goal to offer some assistance to those in question.

I shouldn't even responed to this, BUT I already own a Dremel. It rocks. Wife got it for me on sale last X-Mas for $55. Why spend minutes fileing when I can spend seconds Dremeling. As far as the pic's go, the aspect ratio was maintained on each photo. So yes, the main pic isn't to scale....but it does give a good indication of what one would be faced with during the Taisol/Pro2-A intallation. Now if you look to the right in that picture, you can see some TO SCALE closeup's. Jalapeno, I hope this helped you with any fitment problems you may have been having.

Sorry for the rant... just had to clear that up.

RE: HardwareAddicted

I'll see if I can snap a pic of another angle for ya.

Have a great day all!

Thanks Sanctum, I think there may be a few people that need to lighten up a bit here.

I applaude your post and encourage you to do more if you so choose.

And if nobody likes it, they can go elsewhere to get info.

But as for me, I thank you and look forward to any more input or pics you may have for us.

P.S. still can't decide on whether to get a Duron 600 or go for the 1ghz T-Bird....
after my Taisol gets here and I have it trimmed and lapped, I must decide.

Sanctum, all others,

I apologize for my post last night. I was in a rotten mood when I posted and it got out of hand.

I run the same combination and encountered the same problem, but I found it rather easy to fix. However, I understand there are people out there who greatly appreciate the tip you posted sanctum. After all that's what these message boards are all aboot - to help one another.

Again, sorry, and have a happy new year!

I've got the Taisol CGK742 on a KT7 - if anyone's looking for a template to make an adapter to take a 80mm fan and connect it to the 80x60mm heatsink let me know and I'll email you a scan of the template. I did it in sheet metal and it works quite well.

You've got a LOT more core clearance that I had. I spent a bit of time with a large file taking off hte corner of the HS to make it fit. Also, I got a Dremel for Christmas, just looking for a project to try it out on :D
