Should I remove the thermalpad on the bottom of my taisol and use thermal grease instead? I have a tbird950 and plan to O'C hopefully about 1.1 at least.
Unless you hvae a high-quality grease to replace the pad, leave the pad on. Remember to "cook" the pad so that it phase-changes to fill the microgaps between heatsink and cpu.
how would i "cook" the pad? the installation guide dosent say anything about that. and would i be able to OC to somewhere above the 1ghz mark without a problem?
'Cooking' the pad (Phase Change Thermal Compound) means disconnecting the hsf fan for a while to let the compound reach the 'change' temp. Taisol use CHOMERICS T725 PCTC which 'changes' at 58c. When the 'change' occurs the compound changes from a wax type semi solid to bubble gum like 'goop'. In the goop state it fills small imperfections between the hsf and the core and allows for better thermal conductivity. Note that it does not go back to the wax like state when the temp drops.
wait a sec, disconnecting? thats kinda silly... i would think that i would have to connect it to get it up to temperature... so basically i make my processor get really hot and it will change into a liquidishy state and fill in imperfections by itself? or do i have to do anything specificly to it?
