I have a pair of nice low 120mm Adda fans but they are bare wire with no connector. I know you can buy the connectors (such as these) but do I need some kind of special crimp or tool?

The alternative is just to snip the end off some junk fan and splice the wires together.

The link you gave, Operandi, lacks the contacts. Be sure to get both shell and contacts. jab-tech.com and svc.com both have the shells and contacts in several colors. A special crimp tool works best but it's only worth the cost if you do a lot of connector crimping. jab-tech used to carry those as well - IDK whether SVC has 'em or not.. Last I looked, jab was OOS (back in stock - just checked) - theirs is the one I use. If it is still the red handled one like I have, then the die set that comes with it can handle most open-barrel contacts like the fan connectors, "Molex" drive power, etc., and other die sets are available for it, but jab doesn't seem to carry them. I have seen them elsewhere - I think maybe at Jameco or someplace like that. Crimp AND solder works best but few are willing to take the time to do that...

Thanks Zepper. I take it these are the contacts I would need? They are out of stock at Jab-tech, and I didn't see them at SVC (probably not looking in the right place).

Do you know of any other good places to buy them?

YW, Operandi. Yup, those are them, but I like the places that sell you 4 of them on a strip as they are easy to screw up. But if your fan is only two-wire, then a strip of 3 would be one extra for you... If you look under the heading of Wire Management on SVC, then click on one of the female fan connector shells, you will find your strip of 4 female contacts, but SVC charges double for the extra one - OTOH, SVC's have gold plated contact areas while Frozen doesn't mention it...

I also get various shells and contacts from http://action-electronics.com/ , but you generally have to buy in larger quantities from them for decent pricing.

If you have extra fans you don't use you can just cut the connectors off and solder to that.

For now I think thats what I'm going to do but in the future it would be nice to be able to put new connectors on. I use a lot of 120mm Yate Loon that come with those extra 4 pin Molex connectors that I never use, and just end up cutting off.
