Tail light out citation?

A buddy of mine got a $75 ticket for one of his tail brake lights not being operational, of which he had no idea of. Is he SOL? Seems pretty outrageous.

All he has to do is repair it and show the receipt to the court clerk and it will be dismissed unless he has racked up a bunch of points already.

Probably a fix-it ticket. Do what Magnus said.

On the bright side, better than him getting faulted for an accident and having his insurance premiums go up.

Maybe they could install something in a car that would tell you when your rear lights go out. If you don't have anyone handy to help, there aren't always any good ways of checking.

Not all states follow that rule. I know NY does and NJ does not.

My dad got a ticket when he was on his way home from buying the new tail light. The dumb b!tch trooper still ticketed him. He showed her the receipt and everything... still no go.

They usually do. Usually your cruise control stops working.

That sucks. I would have called the news to embarrass the officer.

Are you serious? That seems like a really stupid way of saying something's wrong with your tail lights.

"Can you check out my brakes? I think they're shot."
"Why's that?"
"Because my windshield wiper fluid pump only works intermittently now."

i got a ticket a few weeks ago here in kansas for my registration being expired

i didnt know it was out, i never look at my license plate

the cop informed me i could be arrested for that (dear christ!)

but only gave me a ticket

which is going to cost me 96 bucks. ugh.

IIRC, years ago, the turn signal would stop blinking (stay on steady on the dash) if you had a light out. Not sure if it was simply for turn signal or brake light.

Cruise control doesn't work (from above post)? If that were true, which I doubt, that's a load of BS. I don't use cruise very often (sometimes go months without it).

BMW's have checked the lighting circuits and warned you if a bulb was out for many years...too bad more automakers haven't implemented this.

My 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee tells me when any lights are out. Of course, Jeep was one of the few American car brands that actually had its act together in the '90s.

He's either not serious, or he's a complete idiot.

How the hell do you not know when your registration expires? They even send you a letter about a month early informing you that you need to renew your plates.

No sympathy on that. It pretty much takes intentional obliviousness for a person to forget to renew his registration.

I know in Shawnee County (Topeka) they will waive all but the court costs if you show proof of registration after such a ticket.

oh, and Saul, tell your buddy to get it fixed and then show up at the court date and show proof of the repair. They usually will waive the fine and you pay court costs.
