Probably because the people in the other vehicles couldn't drive.

If anything the other vehicles would have a huge advantage because of their height. The Sub would get hydrolocked in 2 ft of water, where the others could be well above it.

I call shens x 100 or call ignorance x 1000 - either way its all bullsh!t

How can you call shens when there's pictures?

There are only pics of of the Cherokee, which I'm simply saying is an idiot. This guy makes it sound like his subaru is all that and doesn't post pics of the other two cars that supposedly didn't make it. I am calling shens on those two vehicles (tahoe and bronco) and calling ignorance on the part of the cherokee driver. All 3 vehicles would or should be more capable to ford that river, assuming the drivers are all equal. Thats all I'm saying.

They haven't made Bronco 2's in 15 yrs and if it was old enough it might even have been carbourated. Yeha a new Sub against 15 yr + old technology.
That jeep didn't look leading edge either.

FTW

I would expect the jeep to get stuck, as most jeep drivers think they can go anywhere...and they can't. I will also have to agree w/ most everyone here and say shens on the tahoe and bronco II gettin stuck, as they should have a stock height that would allow for plenty of clearance. I have a 91 Chevy 4x4 that could've handled that easily. Oh and for reference:

that "puddle" was about 2 1/2 ft deep in the middle...yawn.

You saw the pictures. The Jeep got stuck, the Legacy didn't. Apparently there aren't pics of the Bronco or Tahoe; maybe the dumbasses who tried it didn't even have 4WD? Who knows. But feel free to come over here and call BS to the person who was there.

EDIT And how do you know how much water it would take to hydrolock a Subaru? Have you owned one or driven one through a river? Or even inspected the engine compartment of one?

Believe WTF you want, I don't care. I'm saying the person who drove the Jeep was an idiot. Did they make 2x4 Jeep cherokee's? Probably but I don't know, so is he sure it was a 4x4 AND that the driver actually had it in 4x4 before attempting it? Was the driver a complete 4x4 n00b and attempted to gun it at one point or didn't have any momentum or the other 1000 things that he could of done wrong to get stuck.

I 4x4 and own an S-10 Blazer that will hold with CJ's so I know WTF I'm talking about. Jeep Cherokee's are more then capable of that trek, and more so then the Outback on any terrain simply because of ground clearence. Hydrolocking happens when the water reaches the intake and gets into the motor. If a vehicle is higher (thus has the intake higher off the ground) its simply logic that the Sub would get water into the intake before a vehicle which is higher off the ground. Unless of course the driver is a complete n00b and guns it through the water too fast causing the water to splash into the intake.
The water was over the entire hood in a few of thoes pictures, way over the level of the intake (which is directly on top of the front grille). I'm surprised the engine didn't get hydrolocked. If you actually read the post on nasioc you will see the water came all the way up the hood and the air filter was soaked. After the airfilter there is about 3-6" of piping left, all moving downhill into the intake. It probably should have hydrolocked, but didn't so at least give the good ole station wagon some credit.

Either way you cut it, the legacy made it across with a sub 6" ground clearance but the Tahoe and Cherokee didn't. Driver "skill" in this situation has minimal weight due to the vast superiority of the SUV's and their big ground clearance. Even with the minimal ground clearance of the legacy and the obvious amount of water that was coming over the hood, it made it across still running.

Why are you being so aggressive in this thread? Are your vehicle brand loyalties feeling threatened or something? 😕 As for calling shens, what does this poster have to gain by lieing about other vehicles failing to cross a stream? The guy isn't being pompous or arrogant or dissing on any of the other cars at all. I just see him simply sharing his good experience with the rest of the forum. You on the other hand have some issues to tend to.

how about a new sub against a BRAND FVCKING NEW TAHOE?

Aww man at least change the title so it says Bronco II

Only reason I clicked this topic was to actually see a picture of a regular Bronco stuck. But bleh to Bronco II's

I made a similar crossing decades ago in my '65 Mustang. I can cite neither the car, my skill, or my judgement as contributing to my success, but merely luck. The Volkswagen Beetle whos driver chose to try to follow me might also have made it, but as they claimed in certain ads of the time, those things really did float.

nBd

My girlfriend's '95 Scooby Legacy could've done that easy... By driving across the roof of the Tahoe, Bronco, and Jeep 😛

It's impressive that a low vehicle like the Legacy made it, but it's moronic that the other cars got stuck. Don't knock the Subaru's accomplishment, or feel obligated to defend the SUVs' capabailities, just because the SUV drivers were incompetent.

I call dumbass on all three drivers. Why waste a car when you could just park it and walk? I'd rather replace a pair of sneakers than a new Subaru!

depends where the intakes are on the suv's

if they are mounted low (dumb idea in a 4x4 anyway) then they will be hoovering up water. i guess subaru maybe learned from their mistakes in WRC...when petter solbergs impreza conked out after mincing it through a water splash. they had to operate a cowel or something to stop water gettin the in the intake coz it was mounted farily low. didnt help though

[patriotism]
anyway those arent proper 4x4's if you wanna do it properly get a landrover defender 110. 😀

Done 😉

Haha, I was considering camping there this weekend. Good thing I didn't. I doubt, no I know the STi would not have made it that far. Though I wouldn't have even tried that.
