1) Increased safety (decrease chance of fire & such)
2) Puts less stress on the PSU per THG
3) Seperates noisy devices e.g. drives, fans, etc. (motor related?) from noise sensitive devices like the CPU. I suspect (read: guess) as CPU manufacturing processes shrink. CPUs could become more sensitive to noise & what not than they are now.
4) Higher AC/DC efficiency at higher power loads per SLCentral.

Cooler running seems to be the trend for PSUs these days. However, can't say for certain if it's due to increase rail #s and/or better PSU designs.

So, should i also include dual rail PSU's when i search newegg?

i wasnt sure because i didnt know if adding the dual rails was the same effect as a single rail (ie, if both rails are 18, i wasnt sure if that would mean theres a total of 36amps altogether, or what, sorry im no good with PSU's)

I would never buy a single rail PSU again after having experienced the unfaltering stability of a dually. You can oc a cpu an enourmous amount and none of the rails will falter by even the slightest margin.

i would say the tagan just because i have one and i love it to the point i want to have secks with it if it was a woman.. well not that way but its a very good unit, very quiet. but the enermax would be a great choice if you dont use it for high performance and want to save a little. but i still say the tagan if you have the green.

i bought the tag

ive only had my computer running for about 4hrs now so i cant say much about it, but MBM5 rates all the rails within .02v of spec! AMAZING!

well its a tie between the enermax and tagan.....

the onlything the tag has over the enermax is the extra 4 amps (combined) on the 12v rail, will that make any difference at all?

Epox 9NPA+ SLI
Athlon 64 3700+SD (definalty overclocking it)
eVGA 6800GT (only one card for now, might get SLI later, or go for a single 7800GTX)
2x1GB RAM (still deciding on OCZ or Kingston)
Sound card
Sata drive
Lots of fans and fan controllers
etc etc

basically the main thing is, is that i will be overclocking, and i will be upgrading graphics cards often (when i get the chance), so i want something that will satisfy the power needs, even if im running SLI (even if its dual 7800GTX's, but thats a slim chance)

you dont need an sli board. sli is a waste of money, and you just answered your future upgrade options by saying you may get a 7800gtx, which is sufficient enough than two. always stay with a single card, you dont want to spend a ton of money on two cards when suddenly a new card comes out and beat it for a lot less money. and get ocz and seagate. newegg has 80mm masscool fans that are cheaper if you buy 10 than 5, i bought some for my sis comp and they are quiet and moves alot of air, so you wont be needing to spend more on a controller.

its not a waste

example:
2yrs later i can add another 7800gtx for considerably less than it would cost me to buy whatever will get a single card of same performance.

or if i were super rich buying 2 cards is obviously nice

in 2 years they will probably be outdated for new games because technology progresses so fast. i maybe wrong but my 5800ultra is 2 years old and is a piece of crap now.

it costs less to get a second crappy card instead of one new better card. then 2 years later after that hopefully you have a new board/proc anyway.

and if you have the money, then you just replace the card anyway, with 1, maybe 2 card even.

its not a waste, its 2 slots, however you want to make use of them.

enermax, this one has been through 4 different systems all on 24/7, through tons of blackouts, overclocked like crazy. STILL running like brand new!!!

first the small things

im getting a Hitachi drive (sata II)
Im stuck between OCZ and Kingston (value ram for both, budget is under $200 bucks)

third, im not just getting the SLI board for SLI

first off, it overclocks better then the ultra, which is what im looking for

second, it has the same exact amount of PCI slots

third, i want my system to be upgradable via any route, so theres no sense in not getting an SLI board (it definatly doesnt hurt anything)

Also, it seems the Enermax has won, so thats what ill get

if you want better oc'ing then dfi is the answer, and dfi loves ocz. if you're ever going to upgrade your video, sell the old one then buy a new one, no point paying more for an sli board.

haha, yea right, DFI was an option for 5 minutes, until i started reading around

ive said it numerous times, never gonna use DFI
sure, it may overclock awesome, but im not gonna give up a nice, stable, user friendly board just for 100MHz or so, no way

im not here to argue over my choice of components (SLI is the way to go for me, theres no reason not to pay $30 in my case, since i want a system then can be upgraded BY ANY ROUTE I CHOOSE), im here to get ideas on a good PSU, and since im going with the Enermax no need to continue this thread
