Wait wait, Im confused.

Are Mountain Lion attacks commonplace when biking through mountains? By the posts in this thread you would think so, but I'd never heard of this before.

Statistically speaking they're as likely as getting struck by lightening, but I believe thats bullshit because if you live in the city, it's even less likely but if you're in 'lion country' then it's much much more likely.

most of you are under the false impression that you will see this thing coming and be able to shoot it from a distant. Most hikers or bikers have been jumped from an ambush position. Best case scenario is that it paws you and you get away to run or bike away and you wont be able to shoot at it. If you run they think your prey, so you have to turn and fight. Large bowie knife would allow you at least a few shots in to hurt it even if its gnawing on your leg or arm. If it feels some pain it will probably find you not worth eating.

1. you're correct, they ambush you, if you're lucky you'll detect they're behind you before they attack.
2. They don't 'eat your arm or leg', they go straight for the back of the neck and head, thats what they attack.
My point is that when travelling in lion country carry both a side arm and a big enough knife (depending on your size and skill).
3. A mountain lion is more closely related to your common house hold cat than a lion of africa.

what's you point?

My point is when in lion country carry a side arm and a big knife (depending on your size and skill). Either way your more likely to scare the cat than "pwn" it.

no..that was directed at goku......

unless you are goku.

OH:eek:

My apologies i you are not goku....It's jsut that many people have registered secondary accoutns before, adn sometimes other peopls psots make them sound like the assailant:p

Goosemolester, no matter how few screen names you own, you will still be a drain on society and this forum until you pass away or make your self unknown, like crawling into a hole and never coming out again.

i'm positive that you don't actually know or read what you are typing.

BTW, for safety concerns, would it be a good idea to ride my mountain bike with a racing helmet? (like a motorcycle helmet) I was thinking about that mountain biker who was killed by a mountian lion while riding his bike, I dunno if he had a racing helmet or not. Would you be better off with one? All I can think of as to why it's good is cause the lion can ****** with your head, literally! Bad thing though is that you lack peripheral vision IIRC.

FWIW, Motorcycle helmets do not limit peripheral vision at all

no, must be manly man.

fine, a manly man with a BIG gun...

sorry, manly men don't use guns.

Ummm... Tell that to the marines.

Brokk Samson is the manliest man in the world, and he only needs a combat knife.

Brokk Samson could be naked with no weapons in the tundra and could still kill 10,000 fully-equipped marines.

By looking at your profile, I can see why you have that point of view. A sheep living in the People's replublic of Kommiefornia might believe that. Reality says otherwise though.

So you're not a manly man unless you use a gun? I consider one a manly man if he defeats a mountain lion with his bare hands, maybe rocks but what ever.

Yeah, taking aim and killing something is awesome, but stabbing it to death while it swipes at you is much more impressive.
