Why can't I buy this stuff anymore?

In Michigan, a local grocery store used to have small and large containers of it. My family has also made it for get togethers. I haven't found any in NY. Walmart has some kind of "taco layer dip" but it looks like shit.

The base is cream cheese, but it's colored pinkish brown so it's mixed with something else. Then there is some lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and black olives.

Some of the recipes online are way different but I think some of them are like what I'm talking about. Some call for cream cheese and sour cream. Sour cream is tasty so why not I guess.

Man that stuff is great. I might even have to buy all the shit needed and make it.

are you talking about a 7 layer dip?
No, I don't think so. That might be the kind of dip I've seen at Walmart (though I'm sure it's probably good) that has some kind of chili or salsa layer.

Kind of want to go get everything I need for this tonight! LOL I don't even have a platter for it though.

It's like this:

I've never seen such a thing sold as pictured above. It is, however, extremely simple to make. The "pinkish brownish" mix you describe is taco seasoning. Get a packet of that and two blocks of cream cheese and mix with an electric mixer. If you don't have a platter a big bowl will do just fine. Put that stuff on the bottom and put shredded lettuce, grated cheese, tomatoes, etc on top.

I agree it is great.

Yeah I guess it's not that common to be sold, just happened to be at one major store by me.

Alright, so I got the cream cheese and taco seasoning and all that stuff tonight. Freaking $10 for it all.

I'll make some up tomorrow or the next for eating during UFC 116!

Looks and sounds like 7 layer dip (there are multiple variations of this sold, containing various ingredients) which is available everywhere around here. I'd be surprised if you could not find it in your neck of the woods. :hmm:

Yep. It's your normal 7 layer dip. Super easy to make as well. I prefer to add ground beef.

What you want is 8oz of cream cheese, 8oz sour cream, and a taco seasoning packet. Multiply to make more, then add your cheese, lettuce, etc. to top.

We had that layer dip from Walmart once. It was god awful. Do not buy it.

I live in NY too and yeah, you gotta make it. They have some stuff at the grocery store as far as fresh made salsa and guacamole but it's not as good as home made. I make my own guacamole with fresh ingredients and it's way better. More work though.

Same thing with taco dip. My buddy and I would make a variant with cream cheese on the bottom, then a layer of refried beans, followed by hormel chili(no beans) on the top and then shredded cheese. Toss that puppy in the microwave for like 6 minutes and win. Plugs up the pooper though so go easy it.
