My roommate gave me a "$5 off any purchase" Taco Del Mar (punch) card, so I decided I would head there for lunch today.

As I'm waiting in line I notice that they have a deal on Tuesdays: 2 Tacos, a drink, rice, and beans, all for $5. I figure it makes sense, so I order.

I head to the cash register and the manager rings me up for $5 and change. I hand him the card, and he immediately cancels the old transaction and rings me up for around $7.50. I look at him like "WTF?" and he explains that the Tuesday deal is void if using a free meal card. I was in a hurry and didn't put up a fight, but he kept explaining over and over why it wouldn't work - I just said forget it, give me the tacos, I'm done.

On my way back to work I was really irked, probably because I was starving, so I call their corporate office to see if what he said was true. The girl I spoke with immediately told me that what he did wasn't right, and is mailing me a gift card.

Once I got back to the office I noticed some additional fine print - the manager wasn't screwing me over - oops!

Yeah usually coupons aren't valid with any other offer, anywhere. I guess their Tuesday special was considered an "offer."

Much more importantly...what did you have? Were they any good?

I loves me some good fish tacos...We used to make the trip down to San Diego just for an excuse to eat at Rubio's...:D

Ralph finally "sold out" to Corporate America and they're not as good as they were 15-20 years ago. Still better than any of their local competiton though...although the closest one is about 35 miles away.

Most business don't let you combine special offers. It's either one or the other.. either the $5 meal or the $5 off coupon.

So mail them the gift card back.

No, no, OP, send it to me, as I can use it with a clear conscience. I'm sure Taco Del Mar would want it that way.
