I think the commercial's annoying as well. Not nearly as bad as the Pioneer TV "Eye" commercials, though.

I know this is giving away my age. I worked at Taco Bell in 86-87 as a teenager. Back then we made everything but the tortillas from scratch. We had these huge pressure cookers for the beans and they were actually made mexican style. (Dried pintos, salt, pepper, water, pork fat) The meat came in fresh and we cooked it daily by adding taco bells "special seasonings". The seasoning came in packages and we mixed it with water in the small plastic tubs and let it hydrate for at least a day. We cut all the vegetables, shredded the lettuce and cheese. We also fried all the chips and shells fresh daily.

20 years later, almost all that stuff is done on some assembly line at some factory probably in China. You can tell a huge difference in the quality of the food. Back then, even after I worked for TB I would est there on a regular basis because I knew the food was fresh. In the 90's, they brought in that pre packaged garbage and the quality of the food shows it. Thankfully, here in Oklahoma we have a place called Taco Bueno that still does all of this stuff from scratch. Needless to say TB does not get my business anymore.

I completely agree that those commercials are gross. Surely doesn't make me want to go order that thing.

Good post. I remember eating TB in the late '80s and the food was totally different. It was actually good back then, not this pre-digested gooey (melty) nastyness. Not to mention they stiff you on the shredded cheese when you order a regular old classic crispy taco! What a bunch of aholes.

Not to mention the lower quality of teenagers.

Should have taken pictures of some of the gut busters I made when I used to work at Taco Time. Really would have made some of you guys squirm.

If I were to go order the same kind of thing I made now though, it would be $10+:|

Taco Bell rocks though. Seven layer crunch wrap is amazing, as are the crispy chicken tacquito things. I'll have to try this thing out.

I want to know why the tortilla chips in the Nacho Bell Grande taste like Fucking CINNAMON!
One other person I know says the same thing, that she can taste cinnamon, others say HUH?!?

I hate the new tortilla chips! Give us the old style yellow corn one's back.

I wonder if someone is mixing the cinnamon chips up with the regular in these cases. It was my understanding as of a few years ago that TB still fried their chips and shells in the regular stores. The small TB stands like in the malls have all those chips and shells pre packaged.

Maybe some one who has worked for Taco Bell in recent years can shed some more light on if they still fry the chips and shells in the regular stores.

I ate 3 soft tacos and a nacho cheese beef chalupa the other day (the first time at tb for over 2 years) and it tasted ickly.

I rarely eat fast food and this was just nasty.

Frozen blueberrys, vanilla yogurt, fresh blackberrys, and a little torrani vanilla syrup FTW.

it looks gross. not gonna try it.

Double decker tacos FTW!
and crunch wraps when not overcooked. Lately ive been getting overly grilled burnt crunch wraps with unevenly distributed ingredients.

Does anyone remember that TB burrito with the tortilla chips in it? They dont have it anymore =[ Think i can still order it?

Qdoba/Chipotle/Moes > Taco Bell

Anyone know why these stores have the EXACT same layout?

My question is why they feel the need to smother EVERY new creation in cheese. Their steak nacho burrito, for example, was actually quite good if you asked for it without the cheese. Come to think of it, I can't really name ANY item on their menu, barring the nachos themselves, that actually tastes better with that godawful nacho cheese sauce on it.

On a related note, when the hell are they gonna bring back the Caesar Crunchwrap? I know it was just a Caesar salad in a tortilla with some tortilla strips inside, but it was tasty all the same.

Also, if you're in one of the few states that has 'em, Jimboy's beats Taco Bell every time. It's a lot better of a comparison in my opinion, since Qudoba/Chipotle/Baja Fresh/etc. all serve authentic (or primarily authentic) mexican food, but Jimboy's makes no illusions as to the authenticity of their tacos. When's the last time you remember an authentic chicken taco using mozarella cheese and the outside shell being dusted with dry parmesan to soak up the excess oil?

Same here.

Just had one the other night... wasn't too bad.

I still like the ole standby... Crunchy Taco Supreme ... or X number of them depending on how hungry I am. :p

i just wish the actual food looked like the commercial food...

you see these commercials for like Taco Bell's burritos and everything looks nice and good(you can see the cheese, the beans, the meat, the rice, etc), but when you buy the actual thing, its just one huge glop of whatever is in it.
