Nov 12, 2008 Project will soon close down
Due to a lack of time and resources, we have to close down 3x+1@home soon. On Friday, 14th November, we'll stop generating new work units but results can still be returned for a long time. Of course the project page will stay on-line for everyone to view or download (available soon) the project results. Thanks to everyone who has participated in this project!

Major bummer. Maybe switch over to it to get us as high as possible before they close shop?

Now that I look at the project I think we'd be hard pressed to move up, lots of power crunching 3x+1 right now.

Such a shame that it closed down. We talked about 3x+1 conjecture yesterday in Discrete Mathematics. Our book mentions that the conjecture is proven as high as "5.6x10^13" (=56000000000000). I told him that they were at much higher than that, and he asked how I knew. So I explained about BOINC, the TeAm, and the 3x+1 project. Even got a few people interesting. The highest result (checked yesterday) was 2.3x10^21. 😀 I printed the result and will give to him today.
