See this thread on Free-DC.

Seems there's a guy from Chechoslovakia(sp?) that is going around, finding teams that are dormant on a project, taking them over by requesting a "founder" change, tossing off all the existing members and "grabbing" their accumulated points, and then renaming the team to Space Family.
Yea, can you believe this crap?
He just did this to the Teddies in Rosetta where they had accumulated 6 million+ points.
Free-DC lost two teams and the Teddies lost one. I have started through the list of active teams to see if it has happened to us. You might do the same, in case I miss one.

This kind of thing really, really ticks me off. :|

I have a Special Cane just for people like this, and this person should get whacked repeatedly with it!

I went through all of our projects and found nothing amiss!

I also went through all the projects looking for Barbar as the Founder and found a number of instances that look very suspicious! However, I found our team intact in all cases!

Founders should check their email for team transfer requests and respond to them. We could have some requests that hit the spam filters. If not responded to in 60 days, the requester gets the team.

POEM@Home disabled this feature on their site. Rosetta@Home has disabled it also, however it took a long angry discussion to get that done. Some users quite over the issue. I haven't check other forums for reactions on other projects.

Thanks for the heads-up Fred!
Checked my team @ WCG - all seems OK.

Edit: It is really hard to hijack a WCG-account ... almost impossible ...

Which projects still have this feature enabled?
And what a dumb feature to have handing over an inactive team (just founder?) to just anyone!

What's the deal with this credit inflation anyway? Does having more credit give you anything tangible? Not really, it's just a measure of work you've done. If you artifically inflate credit, doesn't mean you've done any more work. Guess some people are so short on lives they have to cheat to feel good at something.

So have projects returned ownership back to the correct teams yet?

This moron steals team ownership yet we can't get our 2 WCG teams merged

The process of changing team ownership in WCG takes more than a year ... thats why it was easier to found a new team than change the name of the existing.
AFAIK, the guy hijacking teams has not even tried in WCG.

Even if it takes more than a year, let's try it at WCG, I thought the reason for creating a new team was that the old team owner didn't reply to our requests and was still actively crunching (that's why WCG couldn't do anything against him)

EDIT: I've tried it: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=21523&lastpage=yes">https://secure.worldcommuni......21523&lastpage=yes</a>

2nd EDIT: see the link above, it is impossible...

Did you request a name change, Tom?

Thanks Tom, good work.
I think however, that there might be opposition for a name change: the team-founder feels badly treated by some members in this community, which happened quite some long time ago. AFAIK not by any members of the current TeAm AnandTech - team though.
So let us all be very polite, non-aggressive, friendly and respectful.

If I understand correctly, the procedure should be as follows:

The current members of Team AnandTech switch to Anandtech.
When TeAm Anandtech has no members, the TeAm AnandTech is dissolved.
The Anandtech changes it's name to TeAm AnandTech.

Please do not switch team before possible negotiations have been concluded ... at least I will not switch before a name change has been agreed upon.

Hmm, I have a feeling this discussion could get quite sensitive...

Since the team captain has not answered our requests for a name change in the past and if you read the last post in the WCG forum, the best procedure would be a captain change (TAC?). This will make future requests (for challenges, ...), besides the name change much easier. However I feel bad about "dispossessing" him, especially since he has been treated badly by our team in the past.

Here's the solution I'm aiming for: We keep our "TeAm AnandTech" since it is already perfectly set up and the captain is not isolated (the team anandtech committee has the login info too) and we invite the members (at least the active ones) over to our team by simply PMing them. (changing teams doesn't alter the credits you have from a boinc point of view)

Invite the captain over, too! He will still have his name as original founder on the new projects list (if I ever get the DB completed.) Show him it's a different atmosphere now-a-days.

Odd that a couple of regular posters are their too.

Philippart, let us know what sort of success you have:thumbsup:
