If you had to get a new tablet now, what would you get?

None of them in a decent price range have everything I want.

I want:
sd card slot
1080 P resolution

They either have 1 or the other

looking at kindle fire HDX but no sd card slot, so i'd want to get the 64 GB version so I have enough space.

I don't understand why there isn't one? seems like an obvious feature for a multimedia device.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab Pro line should be available now. Snag an 8.4-inch model if you're trying to keep the cost down.

There are a few reasons why SD slots don't show up in tablets these days, besides the obvious upsell part: they take up valuable space in a small design, they're typically slower than built-in storage and they require partitioning that may waste a significant amount of internal capacity.

I would get an iPad Air (and already did) or an iPad mini, myself. You buy a tablet for its app ecosystem, and Apple's tablet app selection is still hard to beat. Very fast and great to hold, too. If it had to be Android, it'd likely be either a Nexus 7 or a Tab Pro 8.4.

Ok, too little info to suggest.

Price limit and what uses?

I've seen 64 gig Venue 8 Pro's going on the Dell outlet for $250. You simply cannot beat that. It's a great format size, well built, great storage with ability to expand out another 64 gig with SD card, comes with MS Office apps and can run full windows apps.

Really like mine. Downside is that it doesn't have anywhere the app market that iOS or Android do.

But what do you plan to do with it? It might not be a big deal.

FWIW, I had an HDX and hated it. Fire OS is a cluttered mess. Plus the edges of the screen had an obnoxious blue haze on them that was very distracting on white backgrounds (IE any adobe document or book).

9.7" Barnes and Noble Nook HD+

Already have a nook hd+ and being told it's hardware is not up to task. It's already causing problems with an app.

Looking for about $200 or less so anything iPad is out of the question

Read, music, games mostly

If the Nook HD+ is too underpowered, your only and obvious choice is the Asus MemoPad FHD. Pretty nice for ~$250: 1080p, expandable storage, and CloverTrail+. (Currently $260 at Newegg, Amazon has been less on and off.)

The LG G-Pad meets both of those requirements. The skinned LG model comes on sale under 300 often while the Google Play Edition is 'standard' at 350.

The N7 2013 is also a good choice, though no SD slot, and comes up on deals all the time. You didn't specify a preferred screen size though.

I find it hard to recommend anything less than a Nexus 7 2013. Once you hit that level of device everything is so much better.

I know you said iPads were out of your budget but honestly, if I were you, I'd increase my budget. I have an iPad 4 and a Google Nexus 7 (2013) and there is no contest -- the iPad wins by a mile. My wife has the iPad Air and loves it as well. The Apple ecosystem is far superior to any other ecosystem IMO.

I don't disagree on the ecosystem in the least bit. It's unmatched. However, if you have a large music or video library that you want to take with you then Apple and it's cost prohibitive storage and clunky iTunes interface is a buzz kill.

You can't beat the drag and drop function of Android or the ability to pop in a preloaded SD card full of content on a tablet that supports them.

Am I weird for preferring the itunes method? Maybe I've just gotten used to it, but I find it much faster and easier to get exactly the music I want onto something through itunes. I can make do with android in that regard, but in practice I just end up not using my android devices for music.

I still would recommend the Nexus 7 for the OP though. I have the ipad air too. While it's definitely the better device, the Nexus 7 is plenty quick enough for the op's needs. I think the ecosystem debate is largely a non-issue now too. When bringing up ecosystems we're not talking small vs. large. It's more huge vs. gigantic. So far I haven't had an app need that I couldn't find some solution for in the google play store. Well, except for Amazon instant video. Amazon's decision to not bring that to android still mystifies me.

I didn't see this post then, but when you posted this at 2/17 Newegg had the LG G Pad 8.3 for $250, which would be a really great buy. The sale is over now so it's currently priced at $300 (which is still a pretty good buy because how good a tablet it is).

everything works fine except the Hearts of Space app. Been talking to one of the co-developers of the app and he went didn't know much about the nook hd+ and actually went out and bought one so he could help me out. He's basically saying that the nook hd+ just isn't a very good tablet. now it sounds like he did find some issues with the app since talking to me, so maybe I should wait and see what happens on that end.

i really don't want to buy another tablet just for that, but its an app I really wan to use with the tablet.
