My work laptop is locked down tight and I can't edit photos or pdf files.
I could do both for free if they'd allow it but they won't.

I am planning to buy a laptop to take to work to do these things (among others).

Is tablet technology there that would allow me to do this?
Thought something more compact and with newer technology to play with might be nice.

Full blown Photoshop on a netbook or tablet...good luck....

I use Lightroom 2 on a netbook to edit 5D Raw files. It's slower than I would like, but it gets the job done. If Olds is just tweaking JPGs, a netbook might not be too bad. Any serious amount of editing, I don't think a netbook would suffice.

Pretty sure you're going to want some kind of laptop, with a mouse/keyboard, for photo editing. Ultraportable or beefier is up to you.

The Slate looks interesting, but 1k?

One thing I do want to do in the future:
Some kind of wireless touch screen with speaker, mounted into a kitchen cabinet door.
That way the little woman can look up recipes/watch soap operas and stay in the kitchen... ;)

The Asus Slate tablet could probably handle it. Intel i5, 4GB RAM, 64GB SSD, 12" 1280x800 Wacom enabled display running Win7. :)

Okay, maybe so, but can you color calibrate the monitor properly to get true colors.

Sure, if you just want to crop and put cute captions above your friend's heads...go for it.

Not worth it full blown Photoshop needs bigger memory which netbook has only up to 2GB so if you decide to buy a Netbook then Photoshop Element is good enough for you. I play Photoshop Element on my Dell netbook with 1GB memory it works.
