Nexus 7
The price for the hardware/options is exactly what I'm looking for in a 7 inch table except it doesn't have HDMI out.

Is there another table out there with the same hardware/options that offers HDMI out that I should be looking at instead of the Nexus 7 that's in this price range?

Not yet. The Toshiba Excite 7.7 might do it, but you're better off waiting if you truly want that HDMI support.

Looks like the price is going to be more then doubled. If I was going that much I'd get the asus transformer infinity.

AFAIK the Acer Iconia A110 probably won't have an IPS screen, and it is 1024x600, plus it is heavier with a smaller battery.

So I just decided to get the Nexus 7. However, I don't have much use for for HDMI in a tablet.

id like something like the N7 with hdmi out and external storage support over usb. basically, it could turn into an instant desktop pc or htpc....

If the rumors are true, I'd say the MS tablets in a couple of months, but otherwise, you can't really beat the Nexus 7.

At this point I wouldnt bother with a tablet unless it could also replace a laptop. Does it have a dock with keyboard, or a wrap around case with bluetooth keyboard?

The Nexus 7 is a special tablet in that Google is selling the hardware and basically no profit, because they want to make the money off the apps and content. Basically the same strategy Amazon took with the Kindle Fire.

You really won't find other tablets that are this nice as such a low price. So if you are waiting for a quad core tablet with a 7 inch 1280x800 display, and HDMI out, for $200, you'll probably be waiting a very long time. Unless Amazon does something surprising with it's next Kindle Fire they may be announcing Sept 6th.

You'll probably end up having to spend twice as much to get everything you are looking for.

I had the Kindle and it was nice but not impressive. Being that school requires a laptop I think I will get by with a smart phone and a laptop.
Tablets are fun but very few people need them. I guess the Nexus 7 is a nice toy and maybe a good introduction to tablets for many people who dont want to invest a lot yet.

For a while any tablet that is really good enough to replace a laptop is probably going to be a bit on the heavy side. So while I look forward to having something like a Surface Pro and maybe it'll replace my iPad 3. I will still want a 7 inch tablet like my Nexus 7 because it's so much lighter and more convenient.

I agree, if you don't have a laptop, that is probably the first thing to get. Tablets are a fun item, but not a necessity like I think a laptop is.

Yeah, it's looking like the N7 is going to be my purchase for now.

Oh the tablet has it's place. No, it's not a notebook or smart phone. I have those. The tablet will be the gap between those.

Two questions popped in to my brain reading everyone's replies. If I purchased an app for my smart phone do I need to purchase it again for the table? Can the tablet have multiple accounts?

Thanks ; )

The beauty of Android- Apps work across all forms, as long as it is supported. Just buy it once(unless you want a Tegra optimized version -stupid practice)
Yes on multiple accounts as long as you are rooted https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImZhaHJib3QuYXBwcy5zd2l0Y2htZSJd

I too have been thinking of getting the 16gb N7 as my TF101 is really slow now and one speaker is blown. Dont want to hijaack the thread but does the N7 have one or 2 speakers? Also, is the screen HD and does Netflix play in HD on it?

One speaker grill. http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6054/GoogleIO2012-2261.jpg
Screen is 720p+ (1280x800).
Netflix looks good on it, but I'm not sure of the resolution.

Can the tablet have multiple accounts?
No, and it's annoying.

I'm tempted to try Microsoft Surface when it arrives this fall. However after owning an Acer iconia a500 (which I just recently sold) I would be inclined to either purchase a smaller tablet or a 10" that is significantly lighter. Most 10" tablets including the iPads are too heavy and will always result in sore wrists after extended tablet sessions. Also, I miss the stylus days of yore, fingers are so damn clumsy.

I have an iPad 2, and I think it's too awkward and heavy for a surfing-on-the-couch tablet. My hands get tired pretty quickly. Not so with the Nexus 7.

On a table, I'd rather just use a laptop.

OK, so the N7 doesn't have HDMI out. But is there some other way I can get it to feed content to my television? By way of streaming or something? Or is there an adapter that can give it some type of video out? It would be cool if it could act like an appleTV in some sort of way.

Either way I think I might have to buy one.

Just buy a $70 Blu-ray player or other media player with Netflix and MKV support, etc. :)

You should try an EOS jellybean ROM. My TF101 is on par with my SGS3 for most things. Course that won't fix your speaker.

I couldn't do with the limited storage of the N7. I have probably 8 or more games alone that are 1gb+ each, and would want the Tegra 3 games I can't play now on the tf101. Wouldn't want to have to plug in a flash drive or something to play games, or delete one's to play others. Plus no hdmi out would suck.
