The time is slowly approaching where I have to upgrade from my trusty laptop of the last few years. I got my little baby, the Dell Latitude x300, shortly after it came out 3 or more years ago.
My next laptop I want to be as small and light (but faster) than my Dell x300 (12 inch screen, less than 1 inch high and only 2.9lbs!!!!).
But I have decided I want to go with a tablet next time, since I can see it being a useful feature for meetings and note taking.

Looking around the tablet pc arena, it seems to me though, as if tablets are severely lacking in options, design and performance.

Here is what my dream tablet pc should be:

- 12 inch screen (touch screen & digitizer) also good for outdoor use
- 3 lbs weight or less
- Core 2 Duo CPU (should pack a punch)
- at least up to 4GB RAM with 2 or more slots
- ideally a seperate GPU or at least the newest intel integrated GPU (965?)
- touchpad
- SD card slot (would be great if it supported the new high density SD cards)
- an additional internal SD/CF card slot for readyboost would be great
- PCMCIA slot
- firewire
- USB
- VGA
- TV-out (optional)
- microphone built in
- NO BUILT IN optical drive (except to install the OS, programs or games I never use it anymore and an external drive is much more useful)
- nice look/feel

The closest I came to the above specs is the new Gateway tablet pc, although its CPU is a little disappointing and the weight seems quite high (probably due to the stupid integrated optical drive).
Gateway e-155c

Otherwise the Asus R1F also seems ok. (Screen might be too big for me, although I like the better CPU. The 2GB RAM limit is worrysome though)
