Tablet PC's and School.

Ok basically I can get a regular NON-Tablet laptop with all the bells and whistles for the price of a tablet with a P-3 compared to a Centrino. But I have to ask, is having a Tablet for school worth it? Is it good? Yes? No? Maybe? Should i buy a tablet or just a regular laptop? Or should I just use my desktop?

just get a desktop.
YOu won't even be caryring it to class anyway. It's a hassle.

i bought a tablet because i thought it would be awesome for school. it was cool for about a week and then i returned it for a much better equipped notebook. just skip the hassle and go for a regular notebook.

Pen & paper all the way. While you can draw simple diagrams and such on a tablet, things can get kinda hairy when you're trying to duplicate larger charts. The stylus programs (at least those that I've seen) just don't give you enough space.

There's also the high probability that you'd never use the tablet. Either because it's heavy, won't last throughout a day of class, makes you look wierd, or a combination of the above.

Depends on your school... Some schools it's common to use a notebook / tablet in classes. Others, you'll stand out like a sore thumb. Which means you won't use it in the class.

It is convenient also if you want to haul it all over the place, including home.

I still prefer pen and paper. Much faster, I remember it better, and man I get a little nostalgic looking back at my college notes...

another vote for laptop ... if you're engr. I would go desktop but if you're going to be doing a lot of papers then laptop ...

laptop all the way.

the fact that you don't bring your laptop is because it is too heavy. I feel the weight of my x30 when I carry it. this is one of the lightest laptop you can get. now you would carry your 6lbs+ laptop around? I don't think so.

My PDA was kind of a waste, i ended up giving to my dad. I prefer the traditional paper planners much better.

First, rememeber that laptops / tablets are easy to hoist from any dorm room that is left open for 2 seconds... Secondly, desktops are cheaper and wont go anywhere. Thirdly, paper gets your thoughts across perfectly, while tablets just dont cut it quite yet and laptops you cant draw on like a sheet of paper.
