I will be going to college in the fall and I am looking for a laptop to buy and take with me. I have always wanted a tablet PC, however I haven't heard very good things about them. I am wondering whether or not I should just buy a laptop and a tablet (I would be going for an intuos or a graphire) or if there is a good tablet PC out there that I could use. I will be majoring in Design | Media arts, so the ability to do graphics work is very important to me. I would appreciate any advice for my situation.

Tablets are a very niche market imo. Get a desktop and a Wacom pad for your sketches. Take notes and do sketches on a pad of paper. Typing your notes into the desktop will help you learn and organize the info. Cheers!

Definitely go for the laptop + the wacom tablet. The dedicated tablets are better for design work, since they have better pressure recognition. Tablets are nice, but unless you have a specific need (medical and such) they're still fairly niche.

I have a tablet pc, trust me they aren't worth the added expense. I'd prefer to have a good laptop with a separate tablet than an expensive tablet PC. Just my 2 cents.
