Whoa, glad I didn't flush, which I had in mind to regain my 7th place in the TACube rankings. I'll do that today. 😉

Poof,

You are aces! I had opened it in whatever the default editor is in Mandrake. I just opened it in Emacs and sure enough, there were a few dozen @@@@@@@@@@@@@@. Removed them, put the log back in the directory and, bingo! Stats are back for the 28th.

THANK YOU!😀 And, thank you too, Mika!😀

Russ, NCNE

I do believe networkman has a UPS that could handle the load, Russ, and it's going to be for sale at some point. APC Matrix-something-or-other, I believe it's rack-mountable.

<< Something that's Linux compatible and not too expensive. >>

APC is the only way to go.
You can shop directly from them.
If you setup a reseller account, it's even cheaper yet.
I pay $50 for a 300v UPS, and $65 for a 500v UPS.

PS. They even include management cables.

/emacs is suck

hehe, just kidding. Emacs actually rocks. actually I'm just a little emacs'd out of it lately. Great piece of software, just been having to use it a little too much. Too many programming assignments! But, a free C++ editor and g++ is a good thing🙂 GNU rocks!

Oh, by the way Russ, I guess they felt the quake here in SLC too. Must have been a pretty big shaker. Glad you made it out ok!

<< It must have been writing to it when the quake hit. >>

Excuses, excuses, excuses... 😉 😀

Man that's something you don't hear everyday. It would be hard to make a network earthquake proof. If an earthquake hits, all bets are off!

It's good to see that damage was minimal to you, Russ.🙂 Now, quit slacking and start assimilating.😉

I ahve a strong bias toward APC. The account managaer for APC is trying to secure us a discount deal. The best part is that the discounts are for company and personal use. I hope the deal gets closed soon.

Good to see our Seattle area people back on-line.🙂

As for the UPS issue, I put one on my NT Server here at home and it seems to have made that machine much more stable. It was crashing once a month or so, and it has only gone down once in 5 months now.

/me knows that this statement will bring on the flames from the Linux crowd, but what do you expect out of M$, perfection?

🙂

Glad to hear your ok Russ. And wow another person from Spokane 🙂
You may also Try for Alpha For back up power BUT!!!!

"My server only crashes during earthquakes"

Better watch it, I remember a SysOp in Chicago that
made a similar remark and his power line got hit
by lightning.

And at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, some
officer bragged that his aircraft hangers were
Tunsami (sp.), and the next night we got 140 mile
an hour winds...held up pretty good, but not untouched.
We had fun rolling the 20 foot tall bleachers back to
the base, they ended up downtown...and the cars kinda
rocked and slid against one another, to one side of
parking lot. They brought in a forklift to separate
them. They have these goldfish ponds with 100+ year
old giant gold fish...afterwards, there was no water
in the pond, and no fish to be found...who said fish
don't fly...and "flying" fish do exist...saw those
on the way to the Iraq conflict.

tough call.. however, look at it from this point of view:

we can all quit RC5 when this thing finds the key, and run something more useful yet still competitive, like OGR, or Seti, or Gammaflux..

Crashes only in Earthquakes! lol! Well I expect alot of things crash down in earth quakes! Lucky I am in the U.K and we haven't had one of those earth quakes yet... or not that I know of in my 16 years in this place!

Albert.
