T7800, T8100, etc..

Is it possible to use these chips in desktop motherboards with x38's or p35's?

it would be nice to put one of these in a desktop for their lower power consumption and FSB. It would give more headroom for oc'ing if its compatible.

Since they use a different "socket" than the LGA775, I think you'll have a hard time finding an appropriate motherboard.

They are socket 479 (aka 478+1) I believe. You'd need a socket 479 motherboard, or 478 with adapter + bios update *I THINK*.

There are desktop boards available, but make sure they support the latest ones.. They are generally meant for an HTPC (silent, small) type pc though, as I understand it.

it would be nice to have a t8100, it has an 800mhz fsb, and a 9x multi ( i think)

plus, its 45nm core2 mobile variant, with low wattage, low temperature thresholds, and i bet, would do 4ghz
