T43 or T60?

ok i have a T42 now and i might have to give it back to work 🙁 but thats a complete different story lol

So i am thinking about either a T43 or T60 with the 14.1 1400x1050 screen (t43=x300,t60=x1300)

the one i was looking at under the t43 had this
60GB, 1GB ram, x300, 9-cell, basic warrenty, DVD-RW, 1.86Ghz P-M
~$1600

the T60 i was looking at was this
80GB, 1GB ram, x1300, 6-cell, basic warrenty, CD-RW/DVD-ROM, 1.66 Core Duo
~1800

The purpose of the labtop is for college and whatever i guess, I have 3.5 years left in college to get my BS and MS in Electrical Engineering so not sure what type of software i still have yet to see that might need more power.

Also what the battery life of those T60? I am getting 2.5-3.5 hours from my T42 on 6-cell now.

What you guys think?

BTW i wnat IBM only as i love the trackpoint little nub thing and i love my T42 compared to other students laptops i used/seen

Thanks

IMO if you're buying new, you might as well get new technology. I've never found myself wanting a DVDRW on a laptop, but that's me. The 1.66 Core Duo is plenty and you can always upgrade it later. The 6-cell will get you about 4 hours of battery life, the 9-cell 5-6 hours (on T60). I'd get the 9-cell, it doesn't add much to the bulkiness of the laptop. If you can, downgrade the hard drive and add your own. Much cheaper, you can get a 100GB 7K100 for very cheap. What is the basic warranty? 2-3 year depot service is fine for me, but if I were you I'd pay for the Thinkpad Protection to cover all accidental damage; such a nice service IMO.

Also the T43's had some fan issues and were not the shining jewel of the T-series, not a noticeable improvement over the T42. If you don't want to spend the cash on the T60, I'd almost say get a T42.
