T42P - Stripped Down Models

So I was browsing IBM.com when I found stripped down T42P's with no CDRWs and HDDs or even RAM. The deal was: $1183 for a T42 w/ 1.7 15" SXGA+ and Radeon 9600/64M. Sounds pretty good to me, all I wanted was a 15" with greater than XGA res. I already have PC2700 SODIMMs, all I need to pay for is a cheap laptop HDD and an ultrabay CDRW.

Does this deal sound "kosher"? I snapped it up off the IBM site, I checked the same model number later (2378EXU), and its not available (but my order's been processed already). Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks

Edit:

The price I'm quoting is their EPP program price, which is 200 less than retail. But still, I think the stripped down do your own thing possibility is interesting regardless.

That's a very hot deal. You can just add the rest by yourself for less than 300 bucks!

Any links to that thing?? :D

It's not a T42p if it's got the Radeon 9600, you need the FireGL T2 for that :)

But it is a good deal.. there was also some talk about it on the thinkpad forums (forum.thinkpads.com).

aakerman: the one I'm interested in isn't the P, but the T42P w/ PM1.8, FireGL, no RAM, no HDD, no CDRW was listed at 1600.

pillage2001: If you either know somebody who works at IBM or own IBM stock, you'll be able to get in on it. Its the Employee Purchase Program.

Edit: Discussion from thinkpadforums here. Doesn't really say much. Hell, if mine comes through (which I don't expect it too) I'll post back.

I didn't not see that model at all. Did it have a UXGA screen and a 128MB VRAM?

That's the funny thing, I ordered it as soon as I saw it. Checked back later, and it had disappeared from the 'all models' listing for the T series. So far, no order cancellation e-mail received from IBM. I'm not counting on getting it, but if it does come through its a sweet deal.

Ordered. the p1.7 with radeon 9600/64mb ram, 15" flexview 1400x1050 screen, no HD, no ram, no cdrw, for $1188 on the 11th. So far no cancellation or contact other than my order confirmation which tells me I should be getting it the 3rd or june. Also, they charged my credit card. So far so good.
