Hey, ive got a problem with a T42 I bought online. It was sold to me working, but when I opened it up and turned it on, the display was dim. I said, oh well, I guess the inverter went. I bought a tested working inverter, replaced, and found that the screen was still dim.
I opened it up again, reset all connections.
I plugged it into a known working vga connection, and the display was not recognized in Windows (w7), in the screen selection window, and the Fn+F7 combo would not output anything.
I am at a loss here, but do not want to drop any more money into it until I have some better guesses.
My thoughts- Backlight/LCD cable could be bad, which would require a $60 lcd replacement from ebay, but that does not explain the lack of vga out. Also, it could be the motherboard/IGP, but that would mean I would probably see a red/pink tinge to the screen, or some artifacting. The screen is defect free as far as I can see with a flashlight (the windows environment is perfectly usable, just no backlight at all.
I have cleaned out the lid sensor to ensure it was not sticking, but that is not the case. Also, I have experienced other inverter failures, and the screen is that dim, not just a brightness level setting dim, if you know what I mean.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

T42
1.7ghz
2gb DDR ram
160gb hd
windows 7 (all drivers installed, but I am assuming this has nothing to do with it because the BIOS screen is affected as well)
Tried 2 different known good batteries, and 2 different chargers.
