I am more than interested in a T41p, and got a quote that was about 5% off list, just over $3,000.
I understand that, come Monday, the T42p will be announced, and it will be more expensive.
My questions are:
1.) When the T42p is announced Monday, will there still be T41p's or will they be immediately gone??
2.) If they are still available (T41p) will they likely be less money than my current quote??
3.) Is it likely that the new T42p will not be discounted at all??
4.) How well does the T41p screen "scale down" to a lower 1024X768 resolution?? Would it still look good??
Thanks,
Andrew

1) Of course they'll still be there. You can't just throw out all the T41p's to bring in the T42's, you know :).
2) I'm not sure, but they should gradually go down.
3) Unsure.
4) LCDs do not scale down resolutions too good. They get the "blurry" look. Your best bet is to get a native resolution of 1024x768.

You called me out!!!! :)

Yes, T41's will still be plentifull. Will you see an immediate price drop? Not perceptable.....Not immediately. T42's won't be generally available until two weeks after annouce and at that point will face constraint do to demand/lack of over all skus. Keep your eye on them. IBM could be still selling T41's on their website and through reselllers for some time yet... Ultimately, they'll clear out the refurbs and unsold inventory to Microwarehouse/tiger/pc connection, etc. Where the catalogers will rip you on them... :)

I just took my T41P down to 1024x768.... NOt ideal, but not all together bad either. Font's look a tad out of wack,--no where near as bad as some displays... But again... not ideal... If you were to use an external CRT at your desk, you wouldn't have that problem.

Here's my opinion on the standard 41 vs 41 p though.

I had a t40 with a 1.5, and 256 meg... bumping to 512 helped a lot. I also work with the regular flavor t41's all the time.

T41P is the 1.7 with 512 and the Fire GL.

I don't do gaming on my laptops... They are for work, and I primarily do groupware and large powerpoints. I do a lot of Software Demo's ie; Systems management, encryption, image deployment... and that's why I wanted the Higher end T. To be honest, I haven't noticed that big of a performance difference between them but then again, I'm not gaming with them... I'm sure the 'p' would shine compared to the plain t models if you were to look at gaming performance (video)... if you are not much of a gamer or reserve a desktop for that like I do... then save some $$$ and get the 1024x768 native screen.
