T41p CPU Speed Problems

I can't seem to get my thinkpad to operate at full speed unless I have the ac adapter plugged in. I tried playing with all the power settings in Bios like setting everything to max performance but I still can't get the full speed when I run off my batteries.

Or use the battery miser program from IBM and you can specify the cpu speed on AC and Battery. You will need to create a new user scheme and make the desired adjustments.

Just tried speedswitchxp and it works like a charm. I stopped using Battery Maximizer from IBM even though it came pre-installed because it was causing a humming noise in you computer.

Okay, WTF to the humming noise. But with my T42 on "Full System Performance" or with the CPU speed set to "Maximum," the P-M doesn't run at full clock speed. It goes as low as about 1.2GHz.

Actually I just tried the SpeedSwitch again with the ac not plugged in and now it's throttling up and down like before. It is going from 300-1.7?!?
