T41 fan error

I received a brand new T41 this morning from NewEgg. Upon turning it on for the first time, it displayed the IBM logo, and then the screen immediately went black and "Fan error" or "Fan motor error" (forget which) displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. The laptop then immediately powered down. I have tried to boot up several times since then and the same error is happening. Hitting F1 to get into bios has no affect.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? I am hoping it's not something serious, and perhaps the fan connection came loose from the mobo during shipping... sure is frustrating though.

I have no idea, never happened, try the IBM thinkpad support forums. Perhaps a technician online can help.

I researched a bit; it can be one of three things: 1) the fan is disconnected 2) the cmos battery is bad 3) the system board is bad.

If you call IBM they will have you mail
It in. Because you should not try and re-plug the fan in if
this is indeed the case.

If you do try this and they realize you have done this it will void your warranty.

I personaly exchange this machine through newegg before your time is up.
